Once upon a time, it was scientists, mathematicians and great inventors who became famous for their groundbreaking work and ingenuity.

In our modern society, though, with the advent of social media sites like Twitter and TikTok, quite literally anyone can enjoy their 15 minutes of fame.

Take, for example, TikTokker Jacob Pina, who has found fame on the video-sharing app thanks to his incredibly large, seemingly extendable, thumb.

You can watch Jacob Pina's extending thumb right here in this video:

Pina first went viral back in 2019 after sharing videos of his ability to seemingly make his thumb grow at will. Now he's back, and showing off what his thumb is up to in summer 2020.

Back in 2019, Pina spoke to the Boston Globe, he said of his striking thumb capabilities: "No app. No Photoshop, and it's not a Snapchat filter. It's real. It's real, dude. Everybody says, 'That's fake man, you’re using some sort of trick.' Nope. I don't Photoshop. I don't do anything like that."

Pina's mom, Karen Pragana, joked about her son's unusual thumb, telling the Globe: "I always joked with him that it got that way from gaming. He's a big-time avid gamer."

In another recent interview, quoted in the description of a YouTube video concerning his thumb, Pina said:

“When people see my thumb, they freak out and measure it next to their own thumb, I feel great about it. “It’s always great to be different and embrace your own essence.”

And while speaking to NBC Boston, Pina assured reporters that it isn't painful and said he's "been doing it for years".

"I just dislocate my thumb, by forcing it out of its socket, to make it appear longer," he explained to BuzzFeed, continuing, "My doctor says it's abnormal but can't officially link it to any known medical conditions."
