Woman who worked on a ‘spicy’ cruise ship reveals why guests are shocked by what happens in the secret ‘red rooms’
A woman who worked on a so-called “spicy” cruise ship has lifted the lid on what life is really like aboard the adults-only sailing.
Unlike a standard cruise, these trips are built around sex and themed entertainment for consenting adults.
Former sex cruise worker reveals all
Kate Shelor worked for Temptations, the company behind the cruises, which books out entire ships for its grown-up clientele.
Based in Las Vegas, Kate is a sex and relationships expert, intimacy coach and hypnotherapist, experience that eventually led her into the role.
Having taken part in the voyage twice, Kate explained what goes on behind closed doors, including the mysterious “red rooms”.
She described them as “a friendly space for those looking to experiment with their sexuality in a space where freedom reigns.”
Phones and cameras are banned from the red rooms, and staff stand guard at the doors. The spaces are also reserved for couples, with single guests only allowed in if they are brought in by a couple.
“They bring all their own people and they will choose a large space on the cruise ship for this, and they bring in brand new mattresses,” Kate said.
“You’ll see them loaded on to the ship as you’re boarding. As well as tonnes of clean sheets.
“They will make this room up every night with tonnes of mattresses on the floor, plastic covers, and then sheets on top. There’s towels and water. It looks sexy with sexy lighting,” she continued.
Kate said the rooms are usually among the biggest on the ship because they are so popular amongst the guests. Mattresses are laid out across the floor with the intention to accommodate intimacy, but guests do not have to join in, they can also simply sit back, have a drink, and watch as others engage in sex acts.
Her role onboard the ship
Her role in the red room involved leading what she called “hypnotic sex sessions,” with the aim of helping groups of up to 80 people all reach an orgasm at the same time.
“I teach people a little bit about the subconscious mind and then I have everyone in the room on their own mattresses within their relationship and I have everyone close their eyes,” she added. Describing the job as "really cool".
Temptation Cruises can cost as much as $31,000 for its top three-bedroom cabin package on a Caribbean cruise departing next year. A smaller room for two costs considerably less, at around $2,250.
The company says the cruises offer “a sense of freedom and empowerment you never knew existed, and not to mention an insane amount of fun.”
