A TikToker burst into tears after her request to buy strangers their groceries didn't go according to plan.
Random acts of kindness are all the rage on social media these days, mostly made popular by MrBeast who will give away tens of thousands of dollars at a time.
But sometimes people can be understandably skeptical of those throwing cash around and choose not to partake in the latest social media trends.
So that left Amelia Goldsmith, affectionately known as Milly, in tears after several strangers declined her heartfelt offer to pay for their groceries as a spontaneous act of kindness.
In the viral video shared on TikTok, the social media user detailed her day as she embarked on a mission to spread positivity during a visit to her local Sainsbury's, a popular grocery store in the UK.
What Milly hoped would be a heartwarming display of generosity took an unexpected turn, leaving her visibly shocked and disheartened.
The video began with Milly sharing her intentions, telling her followers: "This is the result of me wanting to do something very nice and buy someone's food shop," accompanied by clips of her shedding tears while on public transport.
The video then rewinds to the beginning of her day, showing an enthusiastic Milly walking through the supermarket's parking lot before heading inside.
She explained her mission further, saying: "So I'm here at Sainsbury's, and I'm going to buy someone's food shop today because it's a Wednesday, and I just want to cheer someone up. I just hope they don't look at me like I'm some kind of weirdo."
However, Milly's fears were soon realized. Her first attempt to offer assistance to a man in the store, who was in the process of checking out his groceries, was met with immediate refusal. He responded: "There's really no need," prompting Milly to mention in the video's caption that he appeared "angry."
The second individual she approached echoed a similar sentiment, politely declining her offer by saying: "There's a lot more deserving people in the world, but thank you." These rejections left her feeling "embarrassed and judged."
Sadly, the trend continued as another stranger regarded her with disdain, making her feel like "an absolute idiot."
Overwhelmed with emotion, Milly began to cry, expressing her feelings about the experience.
Rather than persisting with her initial plan, the TikToker decided to purchase a quantity of pasta and sauces, intending to donate them to a local food bank.
She saw this as a way to assist those who truly needed it, saying: "Weird turnout, but I'm still really happy that the food can go to those who really need it. I'm just really overwhelmed right now, I don't know what's going on."
The comments on the video have since been turned off, but they were originally full of support as viewers recognized that Millie's intentions were good-natured.
