Carl Weathers has sadly passed away at the age of 76.

The actor, best known for his role as Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and his recent appearances in the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, passed away at the age of 76.

In a statement, his family expressed their deep sorrow, saying: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.

"Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend."

Weathers' illustrious career spanned over five decades, earning him recognition and admiration from audiences worldwide.

Born in New Orleans, Weathers possessed a remarkable ability to infuse sincerity into his performances, bringing depth and emotion to every character he portrayed. Whether playing a hero, a villain, or a character somewhere in between, Weathers always delved into the motives and complexities of the individuals he brought to life on screen.

Speaking last year about being part of a galaxy far, far away, Weather said: "It's a whole different way of getting in front of fans, and becoming aware of what people are enjoying.

"It's young fans, older fans, all enjoying the lineage of the movies and television that I've been involved in."

Weathers has also appeared in hit shows like Star vs. the Forces of Evil and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Before making his mark in Hollywood, Carl Weathers had a notable professional football career.

He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Oakland Raiders from 1970 to 1971 and later for the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1971 to 1974.

Weathers leaves behind a legacy of talent and a multitude of memorable performances that will continue to resonate with fans for generations to come.

He is survived by his two sons.
