The cause of death for former child star Matthew Mindler has been confirmed.
Back in August, the 19-year-old Millersville University student had gone missing and was tragically later found dead three days later.
In an announcement to fellow students, officials for the university revealed: "It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University."
And last month, the Lancaster County Coroner's Office revealed to TMZ that the teenager had sadly died by suicide, but they were still awaiting toxicology results to confirm the cause of death.
On Thursday, October 14, TMZ reported that the cause of death was ruled as sodium nitrate toxicity.
Sodium nitrate is an oxidizing agent that is frequently used to preserve foods like meat. However, the outlet reports how it can also cause hypertension and low blood pressure, which can result in death.
As well as the medical examiner's ruling, the teenager's mom, Monica Mindler, also confirmed the news to the outlet, and spoke out about the dangers of the compound.
Miss Mindler had previously revealed that her son had been suffering from "crippling anxiety", and has since revealed that the teenager had purchased the substance online with ease for a reported $15. His mom reveals that he purchased "enough to kill 4 people", per TMZ.
After scanning her son's search history, Miss Mindler also told the outlet that Matthew had looked up how to use sodium nitrate for the purpose of suicide. She added that she had no idea prior to her son's that he was struggling with suicidal ideations.
"Monica hopes someone else's life can be saved if folks know what warning signs to look for," the article states.
The former child star was perhaps best known for his role in the 2011 comedy movie Our Idiot Brother, in which he played River Byng alongside Hollywood stars such as Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks.

Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown has died at the age of 43 after his body was recovered from a river in Washington state, according to his brother, Bear Brown.
Bear confirmed Saturday that authorities identified a body found in the Okanogan River as Matt after days of uncertainty surrounding his disappearance.
"They found a body in the river a few hours ago and it was positively identified as being Matt," Bear said in an update on TikTok.
The reality TV star's death comes after a search operation was launched earlier in the week when reports emerged that a man had been seen in or near the river before being swept away by the current. Authorities later recovered a firearm from the area where the man was last seen.
Bear revealed that Noah Brown, the youngest of the seven Brown siblings, was the first family member to see Matt's body and assisted with recovery efforts.
"Noah helped them pull the body out of the water and Noah identified [Matt]," he said.
Bear said he believes his brother died by suicide, though he noted that the coroner has yet to complete an examination and an official cause of death has not been determined.
"I would've never thought that Matt would hurt himself. It does look as though it was self-inflicted," Bear said, adding that his brother had been struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, along with "other issues" he had kept private.
The Okanogan County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call on Wednesday from someone who reported seeing a male sitting in a shallow area of the Okanogan River. According to authorities, the caller later heard a sound, found the man face down in the water and watched as he was swept away.
A search operation was launched but crews were initially unable to locate the man. Efforts were later suspended because of dangerous river conditions.
Days before the body was identified, Bear shared what he described as "some really bad news" on TikTok, saying he had been told Matt "took his own life" but could not yet confirm the reports.
At the time, he said Matt had been seen "in a river, at a river or close to a river" before later being spotted "floating down the river."
"All the witnesses are saying that it was Matt," he said. "Someone definitely did, and a lot of people are thinking that it's him … It looks like it is … It's looking very likely that it is the case."
Bear also pushed back against claims that the family had distanced itself from Matt in recent years, saying instead that Matt "didn't want anything to do with the family."
He added that Matt had recently been dealing with a difficult breakup.
"I guess he had been drinking too much. I don't know all the details to it," he said.
Concern about Matt's wellbeing grew last week after he posted a YouTube livestream showing himself nude, speaking incoherently and carrying what appeared to be a firearm.
Matt appeared in 79 episodes of Alaskan Bush People between 2014 and 2019 alongside his parents, Billy and Ami Brown, and his siblings. The Discovery Channel series followed the Brown family as they lived off the grid in the wilderness.

Following the heartbreaking news that Matthew Perry has passed away at the age of 54, the actor's past comments about his death have resurfaced.
Over the weekend, it was confirmed that the beloved Friends star had died after being found by first responders unresponsive at his Los Angeles home. The Los Angeles Times reports that authorities arrived at the actor's home at around 4:00PM on Saturday, October 28, where Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub.
No official cause of death has been provided at this time, but law enforcement sources did tell the LA Times that no drugs were found at the scene and that it is believed that no foul play was involved in the star's passing.
Warner Bros. Television Group - the company that produced Friends over its 10 seasons - paid tribute to Perry in a statement. "We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry," the statement read, adding: "Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family.
"The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans."
Despite being widely known and adored by fans for his portrayal of the hilarious Chandler Bing in Friends, Perry's life off-screen was full of many personal struggles.
The actor often spoke out about his battles with addiction and alcoholism, while promoting the release of his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing last year, Perry revealed just how close he came to dying.
In an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer last October, Perry revealed that - at his worst - he was taking "55 Vicodin a day", as well as a cocktail of "Methadone, Xanax, a full quart of vodka". He later revealed in another interview that he spent "$9 million or something trying to get sober".
While promoting his book, Perry also made a series of heartbreaking comments about how he believed people would respond if he died.
Speaking to PEOPLE last year, Perry touched on his battle with addiction, saying: "I say in the book that if I did die, it would shock people, but it wouldn't surprise anybody. And that's a very scary thing to be living with."
But, overall, Perry revealed that he was sharing his story in an attempt to help others, adding: "My hope is that people will relate to it, and know that this disease attacks everybody. It doesn't matter if you're successful or not successful, the disease doesn't care."
Elsewhere in the interview, Perry highlighted the importance of sobriety, explaining: "If you don't have sobriety, you're going to lose everything that you put in front of it."
And after celebrating 18 months sober at the time of the interview, the Friends star spoke about his gratitude for life, adding: "I'm an extremely grateful guy. I'm grateful to be alive, that's for sure. And that gives me the possibility to do anything."
A quick scroll through social media right now proves that Perry sharing his story certainly did help a lot of people.
Our thoughts continue to go out to Perry's family, friends, and fans at this time.
