The iconic 55-year-old singer has revealed that her heart is "broken" after losing both her mother, Patricia, at the age of 87 and her sister, Alison, at the age of 63.

In a statement to PEOPLE, the 'Fantasy' singer said in a statement: "My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."

As of this writing, no additional information regarding Patricia and Alison's deaths has been shared.

As well as her two daughters, Patricia also shared a son, Morgan, from her marriage to Alfred Roy Carey.

Mariah's parents divorced when she was just three years old.

And it wasn't Mariah who was blessed with incredible vocal talents, as Patricia was also a renowned opera singer and vocal coach who trained at the prestigious Juilliard.

Sadly, Mariah previously admitted that she had a rocky relationship with her mom.

In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she wrote: "Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions.

"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother's."

She added that their relationship was sometimes plagued by professional jealousy, adding that it "comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful."

Nevertheless, despite their sometimes turbulent bond, Mariah did dedicate her memoir in part to her mom, writing: "To Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always."

Mariah has also been open about her complex relationship with her siblings over the years, writing that at the time of her memoir, it was "emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact" with Alison or Morgan.

Alison also sued Mariah for $1.2million after the release of her memoir, calling it "vindictive" and stating that it caused her "immense emotional distress".

Her father, Alfred, died in 2002 at the age of 72, having battled cancer.

Our thoughts continue to go out to singer and her family at this time.
