In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, the 41-year-old, who previously accused Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, alleged that she had suffered years of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband, Robert Giuffre, and was finally speaking out after a violent incident in January left her hospitalized.
"I was able to fight back against Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein who, abused and trafficked me. But I was unable to escape the domestic violence in my marriage until recently. After my husband's latest physical assault, I can no longer stay silent," she said. "Again, I thank everyone for their support. I have faith that justice will prevail."
Her allegations surface just days after a shocking Instagram post on March 30, where she appeared in a hospital bed with visible bruises and claimed she was in renal failure following a crash on March 24 involving a school bus in Neergabby, north of Perth.
“I’ve gone into kidney renal failure; they’ve given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist hospital in urology," she wrote. "I’m ready to go, just not until I see my babies one last time, but you know what they say about wishes."
However, the circumstances surrounding the crash and Giuffre's condition have since been heavily scrutinized, leading to Giuffre's rep needing to share clarification.
Ross Munns, the school bus driver involved in the crash, told the Daily Mail it was a minor incident. “It’s just all blown out of proportion, and I know what happened. I didn’t even see her in the car,” he said.
Munns alleged that he was overtaking a slow-moving Toyota Highlander driven by a 71-year-old woman when the car turned in front of him. He said he clipped the taillight, and the woman assured him she was uninjured. “It wasn’t a major crash,” he added.
Western Australia Police echoed that account, calling it a “minor crash” with around A$2,000 in damage and “no reported injuries," per The Mirror.
Giuffre's representative, Dini von Mueffling, later clarified that her Instagram message was meant for a private Facebook page, not public viewing. “Virginia has been in a serious accident and is receiving medical care in the hospital,” they added.
A spokesperson for Giuffre has since confirmed that she reported a January 9, 2025, assault in Dunsborough, Western Australia, to police. However, no charges were filed against her ex-husband.
Her brother, Sky Roberts, and his wife Amanda, believe the alleged assault, which reportedly took place during a family birthday trip, nearly killed her as she allegedly suffered a cracked sternum and perforated eye in that beating.
“I think the last incident that they had, she almost died,” Amanda said. “And we had to speak that truth with her on the phone. And I think she had acknowledged that if she had one more instance with him, she wasn't making it out of there."
Adding to the emotional turmoil, Sky claimed that Robert filed a restraining order against Giuffre after the incident. “He just put his in place first,” he said. “Now she's on the defense.”
Giuffre was later accused of breaching that order by sending a text on February 2, according to 7 News.
Critics have accused Giuffre of fabricating or exaggerating her injuries, but her brother says that mindset is dangerous.
“Is it going to take her to die for people to believe her? Or can you just simply be a human and look at the facts and understand this is somebody that legitimately got into an accident, legitimately had underlying issues," he said.
Sky also questioned the source of her health problems. “Let’s be clear, she never stated in the bus accident the cause of all her other injuries,” he said, adding, “I think that’s from years of alleged abuse. You got to think, she's been allegedly being abused for over 10 years. Anyone's body is going to take a toll over a course of time."
As for the kidney failure comments, he clarified: “Nobody ever said her liver issues and kidney failure were ever from that. We still don't know if it is, I'm not a medical professional. That's up to her doctor to determine."
Giuffre is the mother of three children - ages 19, 16, and 15 - and, according to her brother, she was “despondent and depressed” about being separated from them. “They’re the most important thing in her life,” he said.
Her father also issued a public plea: “Virginia, my daughter, I love you and praying you get the correct treatment to live a long and healthy life. If there is anything in the world I can do to help you, please let me know,” per The Guardian.
Brad Edwards, Giuffre's former lawyer, offered his support as well: “We’re hoping for better news in the coming days. I hope she pulls through with good medical care.”
