A man is facing charges after police found his mom "fused" to a soiled bed and covered in dried feces and maggots.

Daniel Klein was arrested on Sunday (April 7) after Upper Chichester Township Police conducted a wellness check at a home on Dresner Circle after a worried neighbor noticed packages on the porch and no answer when they knocked on the front door, according to a press release.

When authorities arrived at the property, they discovered the neighbor's concerns to be true as they encountered a pile of packages and numerous white plastic bags of "unopened food" after checking the rear sliding glass door.

Police also noticed several flies inside the property when they checked the back of the home.

Officers made a forced entry into the residence because they had reason to believe that residents were "either deceased or having a medical emergency," according to the police department's press release.

They observed the large amounts of waste and packages inside the front door and throughout the entryway of the home. They also detected a foul odor.

Upper Chichester Township Police met with the 51-year-old suspect and asked if his mother was alright. He responded that his mother was sleeping and led them to the master bedroom so they could check on her.

After entering the bedroom, cops saw Klein's mother lying in the bed "unconscious and breathing" with a soiled blanket on top of her. They called for emergency responders, who removed the blanket and "observed her lower half to be covered in dried feces and maggots and her to have ram’s horn toenails".

They also "evaluated Klein’s mother and observed her to be fused to the bed".

The police officers removed the woman from the bed and saw she was "fused to the bed sheets." They then rushed her to Crozer Chester Medical Center for evaluation. Klein was transported there as well.

"This is one of the worst cases I’ve seen in my four years as district attorney here," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer told WPVI. "And for this person, the defendant Klein, to do this to his own mother, it’s just… I can’t even imagine."

Klein was taken to the police office to be processed and held for arraignment. He has been charged with abusing a dependent person and reckless endangerment of his mother. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is being held at George Hill Correctional Facility.

The mother is in critical condition. Her name and age were not immediately released.
