In the wake of a number of performers pulling out of a concert celebrating America’s 250th birthday when they found out the Trump administration was behind it, President Donald Trump has announced “A Rally to end all Rallies”.
In a Truth Social post, Trump made the bold claim: “We will be bringing you, LIVE, the Greatest Rally, EVER! It will be special at every level — A Rally to end all Rallies!”
Emphasizing what an impressive event it will be, despite the lineup being made up of second-choice singers, Trump said: “We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home.
“All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played, the same Music you have listened to for years!”
Set to be held in Washington D.C. on June 24, the event is one of several planned to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
Despite Trump’s bold claims that the celebration, which has been years in the planning, will be playing the “greatest music ever played”, it is questionable that anyone outside of his almost octogenarian age bracket would agree.
Announcing the lineup, the president said: “We will have the fabulous Lee Greenwood introducing me with what has turned out to be one of the Greatest Hits of All Time, GOD BLESS THE U.S.A., and the amazing Christopher Macchio, who will sing Nessun Dorma, Hallelujah, Ave Maria, God Bless America, and others — Not since the legendary Luciano Pavarotti has there been such a voice!”
According to Trump, the US Army Band, Armed Forces Choir, US Marine Band, and Joint Armed Forces Chorus will also perform “all of your favorite Hits,” whatever they might be.
Freedom 250, the charity group planning the Trump Administration’s celebration of the U.S.’ milestone anniversary, announced last week as the “first wave” of performers for “The Great American State Fair.”
However, just days after the announcement, most of those artists, including country singer-songwriter Martina McBride, rapper Young MC, and American funk and soul group The Commodores, declared that they wouldn’t be performing at the event, after accusing it of being politically charged.
In a Facebook post on May 27, Young MC wrote in capital letters: “I HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT.”
Continuing to explain his reasoning, the rapper added: “The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.
“And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, SPIN magazine describes it as Trump-backed. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.”
