Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer have decided to end their marriage after more than seven years together.

The 44-year-old comedian broke the news in a candid Instagram post on Friday, December 12, sharing a snapshot of herself, Fischer, 45, and their son riding the New York City subway.

In typical Schumer fashion, her announcement was laced with humor, even in the midst of a serious update.

The star wrote: "Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years.

"We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time. blah blah blah not becisse I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s basket and not because he’s a hot Janlmes beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever."

While the announcement caught some fans off guard, sources close to the couple say there’s no drama behind the scenes.

"There's nothing ugly. It's a cohesive split. They've just been finalizing a few things," a source told PEOPLE.

Schumer and Fischer tied the knot in February 2018 after they were first romantically linked the year before. They welcomed their son, Gene, in May 2019.

Clues and rumors swirled before the news broke

Rumors about the state of their relationship had been circulating for weeks before Schumer confirmed the split. Back on November 13, a source told PEOPLE: “They’re privately working through normal issues that couples in long-term marriages have. They are both committed to the relationship.”

Just a week earlier, Schumer had posted to her Instagram Stories, sharing a shot of New York City while plugging Hulu’s legal drama All's Fair. She wrote at the time: "And Chris and I are still married."

Even earlier, on November 11, Schumer had removed all previous posts from her Instagram profile, including those featuring Fischer.

“I actually left my house tonight. Who’s proud? I’m feeling good and happy. Deleted my old pics for no reason!” she captioned a fresh upload.

Then, on December 1, she addressed the chatter about her marriage once again, this time while updating fans on her health journey.

“Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she wrote, adding: “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”

The former couple last appeared at an industry event together in June, when they attended the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the documentary Room To Move.

On her new stand-up comedy special, Growing, Amy Schumer shows another side of herself. The comic is famous for raunchy dating stories, but has experienced some major life changes in the past year. In February 2018, she married Chris Fischer, a chef at a restaurant in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Then, in October 2018, she announced she was pregnant with their first child.

The Trainwreck actress has been brutally honest about her pregnancy on social media, and if you have any doubts, just watch this graphic video of her puking. (You know you want to!) That honesty extends to her new special, which she performs while very knocked up. In a bit about her marriage, Schumer reveals that her husband is on the autism spectrum, and it made her fall "madly in love with him."

"I knew from the beginning my husband's brain was a little different than mine," Schumer says. "My husband was diagnosed with what used to be called Asperger's. He has autism spectrum disorder. He's on the spectrum. And there were some signs early on."

The comedian lists one example, where she fell down in front of him during a date. "Nine out of 10 people would go, 'Oh my god, are you OK?'" she recounted. "Maybe more like 10 out of 10 people. Instead, my husband went - he kind of froze and became a lighthouse, opening and closing his mouth. I remember lying on the ground looking up at him and I wasn't mad, I just thought, 'Huh.' Lotta 'Huh' moments, you know?"

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder of variable severity that is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behavior. The symptoms can include a lack of understanding social cues, intense focus on just one item, and self-abusive behavior like head-banging.

After dating for a while, Fischer was diagnosed as autistic, which led Schumer to reexamine their relationship. "Once he was diagnosed, it dawned on me how funny it was because all of the characteristics that make it clear that he's on the spectrum are all of the reasons that I fell madly in love with him," the I Feel Pretty star says. "That's the truth. He says whatever is on his mind. He keeps it so real. He doesn't care about social norms or what you expect him to say or do."

While some couples tell little white lies to each other, Fischer is brutally honest, which Schumer appreciates. "If I say to him, 'Does this look like sh*t?' He'll go, 'Yeah, you have a lot of other clothes. Why don't you wear those?'" Schumer says. "But he can also make me feel more beautiful than anyone ever has in my whole life. And he can't lie! Isn't that the dream man?"

The stand-up special Growing begins streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, March 19.

When we think about celebrity marriage proposals, we picture an extravagant gesture, packed full with surprise and romance. However, Amy Schumer is here to tell you that it doesn't always work that way - in fact, in real life, sometimes a proposal is just "whack".

The comedian opened up about her private life in her new Netflix special, Amy Schumer: Growing, claiming that, as his grand gesture, her not-so-romantic-now-husband Chris Fischer had tossed a ring box on the bed when she was asleep and said: "I got you this".

"The proposal was whack," she said. "He proposed to me in the morning. That's like when people in a nursing home get engaged. Not like at sunrise, like I was still asleep. I was sleeping. And I sleep like I'm still in the womb: earplugs, eye mask, my mom's legs around my shoulders."

She continued: "So I'm in the womb, and he comes in and I just like took one earplug out, I was like, 'eh?' And he just kind of threw the ring box at me and he goes, 'I got you this.' And I open it and he goes, 'Do you want me to get down on one knee?' And I'm like... 'I guess not.'"

She finished her amusing story by saying: "And then I went back to sleep. That's the truth."

However, if you think a pragmatic proposal would lead to a strained relationship, you'd be sorely mistaken. Chris' lack of getting down on one knee was fine by Amy; the happy couple got married in February 2018 and are now expecting their first child together.

It isn't the first time the pair's relationship captured people's hearts in Amy's sketch show; the comedian revealed earlier in Growing that her award-winning chef husband is on the autism spectrum, and it made her fall "madly in love with him."

The American comedian was out and about in New York with her husband Chris Fischer when the pair spotted a loved-up couple having their engagement shoot in Central Park.

Naturally, they decided to ask if they could join them and the foursome proceeded to take the most adorable picture.

New Yorkers Jillian Georgio and Greg Hayes were thrilled to have the Grammy Award-nominated star stop by, claiming the famous couple - who got hitched back in February - were "so incredibly sweet".

"We were in Central Park in the middle of a photo and someone asked us if it was an engagement shoot and if they could join in," Jillian told BuzzFeed. "We had our backs turned to them and had no idea who it was until we turned around and obviously said yes."

She continued: "They were going for a walk and were so incredibly sweet. Amy suggested the picture and decided she and Chris should mimic the pose Greg and I were in."

Funnily enough, the pair - who got engaged in June after dating for almost seven years - reportedly only have the one picture of the encounter because their photographer (Bo from Brett Matthews Photography) didn’t recognise Amy from where he was standing in the park.

"He thought it was hilarious when we told him after who it was," Jillian said, adding: "She [Amy] told us marriage was awesome and wished us all the best."

It's not the first time Amy has surprised a blissfully happy couple - not by a long shot, in fact. The comedian photobombed a wedding in Australia last year, and another engagement shoot in Central Park three years ago.

In 2015, Joseph Turnage and Brandon Moore were snapping photos near the reservoir on 86th Street on the east side of New York City's Central Park when a jogger asked to join them.

Their photographer Alisha Siegel told People magazine: "So out of nowhere I hear a girl scream 'OMG are you guys taking engagement photos? Lemme get in one!' I thought it was a little weird, but I said yes anyways. She took off her sunglasses, we snapped a quick pic, and right after she says, 'you guys know I'm like reeeal famous.' I [took] another look [and] it hit me that it was Amy Schumer! We all cracked up, and then she continued on her afternoon jog in Central Park."

Oh my gosh, you guys, Amy Schumer is this close to welcoming a new baby into the world! The last 12 months or so have been a whirlwind for the 37-year-old comedienne, as she got married to chef Chris Fischer back in February, before announcing her pregnancy last October.

How life can change in an instant, huh?

Anyways, folks, if there's one things celebrities know how to do, it's plan amazing, one-in-a-lifetime parties for big life events, and find a delicious-looking cake to match. Amy Schumer, of course, has her baby shower coming up, and customary with every baby shower is a baby shower cake.

Not customary, however, is how messed up the cake has to be. Schumer is one of those comic talents that isn't afraid to push the boat out in search of an extra laugh, but this baby shower cake is surely a step too far.

The good news is that Amy Schumer didn't make the cake herself, so what you're about to see doesn't necessarily have to ruin your opinion of her, whatever that may be. The bad news is that Amy Schumer probably had to eat this cake, it comes from her sister-in-law, and it's... interesting.

...Wow. Nothing to whet the appetite like a frosting-laden depiction of a baby crowning, huh? Complete with butt cheeks and what looks to be a tiny butthole, Amy can be seen casting a look of pure confusion at her sister-in-law, unsure exactly what to do with the cake placed in front of her.

When creating a cake for a loved one's impending baby, Amy Schumer's sister-in-law probably could have used a few pointers from the likes of Kris Jenner. Ahead of Kim Kardashian's third child Chicago West - delivered via surrogate - Kris Jenner sent her daughter a delicious looking pink cake from Hansen's Cakes.

Hansen's also produced a similar one for Kris' son Rob Kardashian when his daughter Dream Kardashian arrived at her first birthday in November 2017, so it looks as if this is a dessert-themed tradition for America's most famous family.

Amy Schumer is - of course - not a member of the Kardashian Klan, and she's probably really touched that her sister-in-law decided to bake her a cake. But ahead of her baby on the way, Schumer probably didn't want to be reminded of what's about to happen to her, and certainly not in dessert form.

This was a really sweet gift, but I'm not sure I'd have much fun eating it.
