Zendaya has long been hailed as one of Hollywood's most striking stars, but a viral video digitally altering her face to fit a so-called 'mathematically perfect' standard has sparked a debate over beauty standards and thousands of fans rushing to defend her.
The clip, which has racked up millions of views across TikTok and other platforms, shows an artist gradually editing the actress' facial features using the concept of the 'golden ratio', a formula that is supposed to measure facial attractiveness.
Removing her unique, natural features, the artist slims the Spider-Man star’s nose, reshapes and enlarges her eyes, lifts her brows, and makes other not-so-subtle changes to create a more symmetrical appearance.
Of course, the stunning star ended up looking entirely different, and instead of convincing viewers that the final result was an improvement, many were left angry.
In the comment section, fans agreed that the edited version no longer looked like Zendaya at all.
Many said the transformation erased the unique features that make the Emmy-winning actress so beautiful and recognisable, with some arguing that chasing mathematical 'perfection' actually stripped away her natural beauty.

One person commented: “I think her original face is way more beautiful.”
Another commenter agreed, saying: “She is beautiful as she is and does not need to change a thing.”
Someone else rightly added: "Uh no!!! Don’t know what this golden ratio is. Peoples [sic] unique facial features is what makes them beautiful. And Zendaya is already a goddess."
Several social media users also pointed out that the golden ratio appears to favour white or Eurocentric facial features, sparking wider conversations about racism and beauty standards.
A TikTok user said: “Anyone realize they’re whitewashing her?
"That the golden ratio is a European white standard? Zendaya is much more attractive than this manipulation of her, honestly.”
Someone else added: “This kind of content causes so much harm to young impressionable girls.”
While many creators make the videos as harmless entertainment or digital experiments, they can reinforce unrealistic expectations by suggesting that even some of the world's most beautiful women need to be 'fixed.'
The reaction to this video is reassuring, as the vast majority of people agreed that they preferred the original, arguing that the actress' distinctive features are exactly what make her beautiful.

Have you ever wanted to know what it takes to be one of the most beautiful women in the world?
Well, according to one surgeon, there’s actually a mathematical formula for it.
"The Golden Ratio" is based on the Fibonacci sequence - an Ancient Greek math ratio that appears in nature, art, and architecture. Some people believe that the Golden Ratio can be used to measure the most beautiful and appealing shapes.
So when renowned facial cosmetic and plastic surgeon Dr. Julian De Silva put this theory to the test on famous women’s faces, he believed he had come up with a list of the most ‘beautiful women in the world.’
The surgeon took to his Instagram to list his findings and here are his top 10 most beautiful women in the world.
Coming in at number 10 was Squid Game star, HoYeon Jung. She scored almost perfectly for her nose base and lip width positioning.
Next up was Bollywood star, Deepika Padukone. Out of everyone listed, she had the most beautifully shaped eyebrows, according to Dr. De Silva.
In eighth place was reality TV star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian. Despite divided opinions, Dr. De Silva commented: “She scored very highly for the shape of her brow area and her chin but was marked down for lips and her overall face shape.”
British model, Jourdan Dunn came in seventh, living up to her career expectations
One that all the ‘Swifties’ would be proud of, well-loved singer Taylor Swift came sixth on the list of most beautiful women.
Getting into the top five, Ariana Grande was next, with a nearly perfect forehead score.
'Crazy in Love' singer, Beyoncé, came fourth with a Golden Ratio rating of 92.44%.
With a bit of a jump, the woman in third place, with a rating of 94.35%, was supermodel, Bella Hadid.
The second-place spot went to the incredibly talented, Zendaya - isn’t Tom Holland a lucky guy?
So, the top spot in Dr. De Silva’s list of most beautiful women in the world went to none other than Jodie Comer, the 29- year old actress best known for her role in the award-winning thriller Killing Eve.
Dr. De Silva commented: “Jodie Comer is the most beautiful woman in the world, according to science.”
The actress got the highest Golden Ratio rating which was 94.52%.

Of course, we know that beauty is subjective - but can we really argue science?
There is perhaps no more coveted commodity in our society than that of celebrity.
Arguably a more powerful stimulant than wealth or even happiness itself, we are in thrall to the notion of fame and all of its trappings. We keep up with the Kardashians on a daily basis, and consume gossip, pictures and ostensibly mundane tidbits of information on our favourite celebrity with a voracious appetite that can seemingly never be sated.
A quick scroll through the filtered corridors of Instagram will tell you that everyone wants to be famous these days. In fact, many people act like celebrities even when they are no such thing, appropriating stock photographs of private jets and exotic locales to meet their own imagined life of luxury.
Of course, the majority of those we worship can point to a body of work and years of hard work that has eventually lead to fame, fortune and public adoration, but even then the rich and famous are subjected to ludicrous beauty standards and incessant pressure to look flawless at all times.
Someone who definitely doesn't struggle with that is Zendaya. The 21-year-old actress and singer has adoring fans all over the world, having risen to prominence initially as a result of her work on the Disney Channel's Shake It Up.
However, even Zendaya has felt the full force of the internet's ability to find flaws in absolutely anything recently, and it all came about after she posted a flawless set of bikini pictures to Twitter.

There is probably a lesson to be learned from all this, but for the life of me I can't work out what that lesson might be. One thing is for sure, it doesn't matter how beautiful and flawless you are, if you post a photo of yourself on Twitter, the internet will, eventually, find something wrong with it.
Luckily, Zendaya appears to have seen the funny side of the situation.

To be fair, some of the tweets were pretty funny, and it seems like the majority were clearly meant in light jest rather than to be taken seriously.

A woman has taken to TikTok to demonstrate her unbelievable makeup skills.
People are so wowed by Valeria Voronina's transformations that they often question whether it's the same person before and after.
Some have even gone so far as to suggest that she is using magic to create her incredible looks.
In many of her TikTok videos, Valeria begins by posing with a totally bare face, oversized glasses, and her hair worn unflatteringly in braids.
In one recent clip, she added overlay text to the image of herself before makeup that read: "Him: 'You're too ugly to be talking to me.'"
However, after pouting at the camera, Valeria suddenly transforms as the video cuts to a view of her fully glammed up. In the next shot, the makeup artist poses with voluminous hair, dramatic lashes, and a flawlessly made-up face as she lip syncs: "I don't want to talk to you."
Many of Valeria's other videos follow a similar pattern, beginning with her 'bare-faced' and ending with her looking almost unrecognizable.
Unsurprisingly, many viewers were astonished by her incredible makeup transformations. They took to the comments section to gush over her skill, with many going so far as to say the transformations defied science.
"What in the Paul Daniel's magic trick is going on here," one person wrote, while another commented: "That's not makeup, that's magic."
Others simply couldn't believe that it was the same person before and after. "Definitely not the same person," one commented. Another agreed, writing: "I suspect it’s a different person."
However, others thought there was a simpler explanation for the unbelievable transformation. They explained that Valeria had used makeup on both her before and after looks so that they would be as far apart as possible.
"Very talented! She has used makeup in both the before and after lol just in different ways - smart lady," one viewer commented. A second person pointed out the same thing: "The before is makeup as well. she’s actually very pretty without makeup!!"
Zendaya is the latest celeb to be immortalized at London's Madame Tussauds.
The world-famous waxwork museum is renowned for making spookily realistic figures of celebs, but people have been left unconvinced by its wax version of Euphoria star Zendaya.
The figure - which will become a permanent part of the museum's awards party zone - was unveiled in an Instagram post earlier today.
"From cinema screens to tv screens, to buying a home in London, Zendaya is EVERYWHERE rn... and from Friday her figure will be at Madame Tussauds London too," the caption read.
Dressed in the same vivid pink suit that the actress wore at the Humane Society of the United States's To The Rescue Gala back in 2016, the figure captures Zendaya's signature style.
Meanwhile, Popsugar reports that Madame Tussauds says the figure was "sculpted using measurements and references taken during her 2015 sitting with the world-famous attraction's artists." But Zendaya's fans are unconvinced, with many flocking to Twitter to roast the waxwork.
"Only way this looks like Zendaya is if I keep my glasses off," one person tweeted, while another added: "I love Zendaya but her wax figure at Tussaud's [looks] like a tan Kylie Jenner."
Others were quick to point out the hilarious expression Zendaya's wax figure is pulling.
"The wax version of Zendaya looks like she wants to speak to the manager," someone commented.
"Zendaya wax figure came with an attitude," another joked, while a third added: "Why did they purse her lips like that...it's giving attitude."
However, some people thought the figure was a good likeness.
"That wax figure looks almost exactly like zendaya idk what y'all are talking about," one wrote, while another agreed: "It looks like Zendaya to me. Guys it is a wax figure, not the real thing."
Tim Waters, general manager at Madame Tussauds London, said of the figure: "Zendaya just exudes cool. Not only that, she uses her celebrity status to join conversations, thoughtfully, on important social issues. She is unapologetically herself — and we, along with her fans, love that about her."
Zendaya has previously hit back at online trolls who targeted her family, but unfortunately, it’s far from the only time she’s had to contend with scathing comments from critics.
Now 28, the actress is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars, with a packed slate of upcoming projects including Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Denis Villeneuve’s hotly anticipated Dune: Part Three, and The Drama.
Alongside acting, she’s also forged a career as a singer and model, and was even named one of the most beautiful women in the world, according to a Golden Ratio scientific study.
Despite her success, Zendaya hasn’t been immune to online hate. Back in 2015, the former Disney Channel star faced a wave of cruel comments after sharing a selfie with her parents, Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman.
Both of her parents, who previously worked as public school teachers, have long been credited with helping keep her grounded — something Zendaya herself has openly acknowledged.
Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, she once said: “I gotta give it up to my parents. I’m really lucky to have the parents that I have. They just have always instilled in me those core values that I think I have to carry with me through everything.”
However, when she posted the family photo online, some users responded with deeply offensive remarks, targeting her parents’ looks. One person wrote: “Her parents really ugly I really would cry,” while another added: “They made a gorgeous a** child lol.”
However, the fiery acting star didn’t stay silent. She responded directly, writing: “First, I’m gonna pray for you. While you’re so concerned about what my parents look like, please know that these are two of the most selfless people in the world.”
She went on to defend their character and life’s work, adding: “They have chosen to spend their entire life, not worried about trivial things such as looks and insulting people’s parents on Twitter, but instead became educators who have dedicated their lives to teaching, cultivating and filling young, shallow minds.”
Encouraging kindness, she concluded: “So please, log out, go to school, hug a teacher and read a textbook… and while you’re at it, go look in the mirror and know that you too are beautiful, because such hateful things only stem from internal struggles. Bless you.” She signed off the message from herself and her “beautiful family.”
The incident wasn’t the only time Zendaya addressed criticism head-on. In 2020, she spoke out after stepping away from a planned biopic about late singer Aaliyah, shutting down speculation that online backlash played a role.
“The reason why I chose not to do the Aaliyah movie had nothing to do with the haters, or people telling me that I ‘couldn’t do it,’ or ‘wasn’t talented enough’ or I wasn’t ‘Black enough,’” she said.
