The reason why some celebrities refuse to sign autographs with pens containing blue ink has been shared.
Earlier this year, a video of Claire Foy refusing to sign autographs with a blue pen sparked a debate on social media.
A clip of the British actress - best known for starring as young Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix drama series The Crown - has made rounds on the internet and left many people confused.
In the video shared on TikTok, a man offers Foy - now 40 - paper and a blue pen to sign her name with, but after spotting the marker's color, she's heard saying: "I don’t do blue."
"What?" the man responds, seemingly taken aback by her reply, as she repeats her statement for the individual.
Check out the video below:
The Season of the Witch actress is then approached by another fan holding a black Sharpie and stops for them so that she can sign their white paper.
And this isn't the first time Foy has been spotted rejecting a blue Sharpie - as she can also be seen doing the exact same thing in the video below:
Under the footage - shared by TikToker MickMickNYC - viewers were quick to speculate why the Golden Globe winner refused to touch the blue pen.
"That is the weirdest thing! No blue, wonder what the reason is?", one person reacted, while another said: "I need to know why she doesn’t do blue?!?"
Many users shut down claims of the award-winning actress being impolite, saying her dismissal of the fan had more to do with her not wanting her autograph to be sold.
"Most celebrities and athletes are taught not to do blue ink cause you can scan and forge the signature on other things and sell them," one user explained.
Another added: "For computer scanning recognition it’s used to forge," while someone else said: "Apparently, blue ink allows people to transfer signatures easily to other items which is why they only sign with black ink."
"Colored ink autographs get sold for far more money on eBay etc. Some celebs don’t want to support a secondary market/exploitation of their brand," someone else penned on Instagram.
Last year, basketball star Russell Westbrook was also seen refusing to sign an autograph with a blue pen.
After Russell was criticized on social media, fellow basketballer Patrick Beverly explained on his podcast 'The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone' that he’d also been warned to avoid signing anything with a blue pen.
"I was taught, maybe after my third year that you’re not supposed to use a blue pen because they can use that signature and slap it on another jersey and sell that, but you can’t do that with a black pen or grey pen," he explained.
So the next time you want a celebrity to sign something, remember to keep a black pen in your bag.

In a bold move echoing her viral moment during the Edmonton Oilers' playoff run, Kait, the fan known for flashing the crowd, has reportedly inked a deal with Playboy.
Kait gained internet fame after her spontaneous gesture during Game 5 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars back on May 31 at Rogers Place.
She boldly lifted her jersey and bra, going viral on social media and capturing the attention of fans and media alike.
According to the Daily Mail, Kait was contacted by multiple adult websites - but she turned down all offers, opting instead to collaborate with Playboy.
The announcement came from the iconic magazine on Friday, celebrating Kait's newfound status as a viral sensation turned model.
The magazine's post featured Kait in provocative attire, showcasing the same confidence that made her a social media sensation.
Playboy's statement on social media read: "Meet Kait, the Oilers good luck charm. The @edmontonoilers might not have the Stanley Cup just yet, but with @k89.fly cheering them on, they're unstoppable. Catch Kait over at The Playboy Club."
In response to the mixed reactions following her rise to fame, Kait addressed critics in a candid social media video earlier this week. "Hey everybody, Oilers girl—actually my name's Kait, but here we are," she remarked defiantly. "So I've thought long and hard about what I wanted to say to everybody...
"But I just wanted to say, you could be the most perfect, Godly f***king person in the world, you could save kittens from a river if they're drowning, someone's still gonna hate you."
She continued with unapologetic gusto: "So you know what? At the end of the day, I got drunk and whipped my tits out at an Oilers game and they went viral, f**k you if you don't like it. Woo! Go Oilers!"
Reflecting on her impromptu moment, Kait shared insights during an appearance on the Spittin Chiclets podcast. When asked about what inspired her to lift her jersey, she humorously remarked: "You know, what... I don't know.
The handful of Cheezies that I ate all day and the eight Trulys I drank in the first period was definitely inspiring."
Despite the controversy, Kait's presence at Oilers' games has coincided with their playoff success.
Recently, she attended Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, updating fans through her Instagram story as Edmonton triumphed over the Panthers with a commanding 5-1 victory, evening the series at 3-3.
And on social media, other Oilers fans have been sharing videos and selfies with Kait whenever the bump into her.
She really is becoming the team's good luck charm.

Kanye West refused to sign an autograph for a young fan, all because he didn't want to be seen using the pen that she was offering.
Kanye is a divisive figure. You either love what he stands for and his music, or you're sick of hearing about the bizarre things that he gets up to.
But one thing that you can't fault Kanye on, is his ability to make a seemingly ordinary moment take a weird turn that just raises eyebrows.
As it turns out, when he's not parading around with Bianca Censori in revealing outfits, he's taking issue with pens.
At Paris Fashion Week, the rapper ventured out to greet admirers while sporting a black anorak, Nike gloves, and titanium grills and graciously posed for photos with fans.
However, when a young girl approached him with a notepad requesting an autograph, the situation took an unexpected turn.
In a viral video capturing the moment, Kanye was seen scrutinizing the pen offered by the fan, a small bunny-shaped, pink and white pen.
"Is that a pen?" he questioned, clearly unimpressed by the unconventional choice.
Watch the moment below:Despite the light-hearted laughter from the crowd, West made it clear that he wasn't going to compromise on his standards. "Y’all gonna make me hold a bunny pen?" he said, sparking further amusement from the crowd.
While it all seemed to be in jest as he grinned with his titanium grills on show, it appeared that the rapper had no intention of signing the autograph with the pen, and was instead handed a more conventional one.
People quickly offered their thoughts, with one person commenting: "You know it’s gone too far when he thinks he’s too important to use a pen with a bunny design."
A second person said: "I don’t like bunny pens anymore," while a third commented: "Ye not rockin’ with bunny pens?!"
In other Kanye news - not related to pens - he stirred controversy with a peculiar rant where he claimed that he was helpful to Taylor Swift's career.
The longstanding feud between West and Swift traces back to the infamous incident at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where Kanye interrupted Taylor's acceptance speech and told the crowd that Beyoncé was more deserving of the award, sparking animosity between their respective fan bases.
In an Instagram post, Kanye asserted: "REMEMBER I WAS ON TAYLOR’S SIDE WHEN SCOOTER BOUGHT HER MASTERS BEHIND HER BACK."
Addressing Taylor's fans, Kanye claimed to have contributed more to Taylor's career than detracted from it, stating: "I’M SURE I’VE BEEN FAR MORE HELPFUL TO TAYLOR SWIFT’S CAREER THAN HARMFUL."
There's never a dull moment with that man.

A Korean streamer with hundreds of thousands of followers has been found dead after an argument with a VIP viewer who had donated more than $70,000 to her.
The man has since been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
Yoon Ji-Ah was found on the side of a mountain in North Jeolla Province on September 11.
It appeared that she had been strangled, and her body also showed signs of bruising.
Police estimate that she was killed around 30 minutes after her last stream ended.
A man in his 50s, who has only been identified as Chio, was a supporter who allegedly donated around 100 million won - which is about $70,000 - to Yoon under the screen name ‘Black Cat’.
He is alleged to have told Yoon that he was the CEO of a large IT company, although it has since transpired that he was in a lot of debt and had his home seized in a forced auction.
According to reports in Chosun, Choi had managed to convince Yoon to go into business with him, and became a VIP donor to her livestreams.
It was also reported that the streamer had tried to sever ties with him after becoming exasperated by his behavior and schedule.
He is reported as having been demanding and controlling over her.
CCTV footage showed Choi kneeling on the floor appearing to beg Yoon for something.
Investigators believes she died around 3:27pm that day, when she was seen being pulled into a car against her will.
Her cause of death was later confirmed to be asphyxiation through neck compression.
The suspect is then alleged to have tried to hide the actions, trying to misdirect police after leaving her body on the mountainside.
12 hours later, police captured the suspect who first claimed innocence but later reportedly confessed to the killing after police discovered Yoon’s body.
There have been nationwide protests after the murder, and an outpouring of grief from the streaming community and beyond.
Her death also raises a debate about the relationship between streamers and their viewers, and the blurred line in that relationship.
There have also been calls for increased regulation and safety measures for content creators to protect them from situations such as this.
