Selena Gomez has sparked speculation online after appearing to take a subtle swipe at longtime friend Taylor Swift in a now-deleted Instagram story.
The post came shortly after the New York Knicks secured a playoff victory over the San Antonio Spurs, a game that drew significant celebrity attention, including Swift, who was seated courtside at Madison Square Garden.
The singer, who concluded her world tour last year, was photographed in the front row wearing a New York Knicks T-shirt alongside two friends, visibly celebrating the team’s comeback win against the Spurs, the team Gomez allegedly supports.
In her Instagram story, Gomez shared an image related to the game and wrote, “Mad respect for the game!! Congrats to the peeps that represent! What a come back.” She then followed up with a more pointed remark: “so funny how some are all the sudden fans though lol.”
Although Gomez did not mention Swift by name, the timing of the post quickly led fans to interpret it as a veiled dig at the singer’s public appearance at the game.
Adding to the intrigue, Gomez reportedly commented “lol” on an Instagram post featuring Swift celebrating the victory.
The posts have raised eyebrows largely because there has been no prior indication of tension between the two artists.
On the contrary, Gomez and Swift have long been known for their close friendship, frequently supporting one another both publicly and privately over the years.
The pair have often been photographed together and have spoken positively about each other in interviews, making any suggestion of friction particularly unexpected.
As of now, neither Gomez nor Swift has addressed the situation directly, leaving fans to speculate about whether the comments were intended as playful teasing or something more serious.
This comes after Donald Trump was booed by fans at the famous stadium, following his appearance at Game 3 on Monday, further leaving social media to speculate who the post could possibly be targeted at.

A radio analyst has sparked backlash after making a savage five-word comment about Taylor Swift during Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
The 36-year-old musician was among the celebrities in attendance for Wednesday (June 10) night's game in New York City, where the New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in a record-breaking comeback.
But while fans inside Madison Square Garden were excited to spot the pop superstar courtside, one comment from the broadcast team quickly grabbed attention online.
During an off-air conversation, members of the Knicks radio crew were discussing whether the 'Cruel Summer' musician had arrived at the game.
As colleagues, including Tyler Murray, tried to confirm the sighting, someone asked: "Is that Taylor Swift down there?"
Once it was confirmed that Swift was indeed in attendance, the host of the New York Knicks, Monica McNutt, appeared unimpressed.
"She's not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl," she said.
The comment quickly circulated on X, where Swift's loyal fanbase, known as Swifties, accused the analyst of taking an unnecessary swipe at the singer.
"Being on air or not, you're still working, this is your job. inform yourself first or just shut up. the level of unprofessionalism is insane, studying to make this your job, and being known for one night only for a mean comment is pretty embarrassing," one fan criticized.
Another said: "Casual misogyny from other women in the big 2026. I thought it was understood women can like sports by now…"
A third defended: "This isn’t the first time taylor’s been to a knicks game nor is it the first time she’s a showed support to them. What was the point of being rude? surely as a female analyst monica mcnutt should be excited about the amount of female fans this will bring attention to the game?"
Even Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy weighed in on the controversy: "Damn. Hate to see @McNuttMonica hating on Taylor Swift. Lots of new faces in the crowd. Don't see her singling them out. Knicks are falling apart at the seams."
The Grammy-winning star's appearance at the game was notable for more than just the viral exchange.
Swift was sitting courtside alongside actress Mariska Hargitay, best known for playing Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The pair coordinated their outfits, both wearing blue shirts featuring the phrase "Stevie Knicks" in orange lettering.
They were joined by Alana Haim and Este Haim, who also wore Knicks-inspired shirts. Alana's top read "Knickelback," while Este's featured the phrase "Knicole Kidman."
Also spotted at the game were Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Ben Stiller, Spike Lee, Adam Sandler, Michael J. Fox, Julianne Moore, Tracy Morgan, and Nas.
Swift's fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, was not in attendance as he continues participating in the team's mandatory minicamp.

There was an awkward moment between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on Monday night (May 25), according to social media users.
The couple were sitting in the front row at Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.
Emerging as 130-93 victors and 4-0 winners in the series, the Knicks had superstar fans like Timothee Chalamet jumping around at the final buzzer as the NBA team secured their first Finals appearance since 1999.
It was a momentous occasion for all but a few in the building, including Cavs fan Kelce, who also wasn't given an easy ride on social media after a certain interaction with fiancée and popstar Taylor Swift.
The camera unsurprisingly panned over to the superstar couple numerous times during the game, even capturing a big-screen kiss between the two on the Jumbotron.
While Kelce hyped the arena up by chugging a beer, showing off his Cavs t-shirt to the New York crowd, and even jokingly falling asleep mid-game, another moment stole the headlines.
Swift may have looked a bit embarrassed by Kelce's antics, but she was involved in their most viral moment of the night.
The multi-Grammy award-winning artist was seen reaching into her handbag to reach for something to give to her fiancé.
Kelce wasn't animated at all, as the NFL star took the item from her Swift, with many users assuming that she had passed him her credit card, for some reason.
Fans thought that this alleged power move was fitting, given their gulf in net worth and Kelce's need for more beer.
One fan commented on the video: “Rich people doing stuff,” with another adding: “I thought she passed her credit card to him!”
A third jokingly suggested: “Passing the credit card … “Honey, why don’t you go buy yourself something shiny. Mama's got a game to watch.”
However, a closer look suggests that this is wide of the mark, because while Swift may be worth a lot more, Kelce still earns an average of $18m per year over the course of his contract until 2028.
No, in a situation which many of us can relate to, Kelce was seemingly asking his partner for some gum, likely to combat the beer breath he had built up over the night.
Some other fans noticed this, as one commented: “This chewing gum she gave him was to fix his bad breath.”
Another agreed: “Gum for beer breath.”
A third observed the nature of the exchange, writing: “They look like a married couple already, her passing him some gum, it looks like no questions.”

While the NBA world has gone into a complete meltdown following the most dramatic of endings to Game 4 of the finals, the world of showbiz has been focused on a certain A-list Knicks fan.
We are obviously talking about Taylor Swift, and while the New York Knicks completed a historic comeback following a disgraceful second-half performance from the San Antonio Spurs, the pop star managed to steal headlines for her reactions in courtside seats.
It takes some effort to be in the news after the biggest collapse in NBA Finals history, but if anyone were to do it, it would be Swift.
Unfortunately, an ESPN analyst's blunt assessment of Swift's attendance at the game during an off-air conversation was one of the talking points online.
When it was confirmed that Swift was in attendance, basketball analyst Monica McNutt was unimpressed, saying: "She's not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl."
McNutt has now spoken out following the controversial moment, posting a video on social media.
The analyst posted a short video on Instagram, capturing the final moments of a dramatic Game 4, which saw the Knicks go up by one point with the penultimate play of the game.
The camera was pointed at both her and Knicks radio host Tyler Murray, who looked tense as the Knicks looked to take the lead in the dying seconds of the game, after being 29 points down at halftime.
After Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson missed a three-point attempt, cult hero OG Anunoby was there to tip in the rebound, giving his team a one-point lead with 1.2 seconds left on the clock.
The crowd could be seen erupting behind the commentators as they witnessed one of the most jaw-dropping moments in NBA history.
This moment came just seconds after Spurs all-star guard De'Aaron Fox squandered an opportunity to run the clock down, attempting a contested lay-up, which was blocked by Anunoby, instead of playing for a foul with the Spurs up by one point.
Despite the on- and off-court drama, McNutt didn't address her comments at all, leaving Swifties angry online.
There is no guarantee that McNutt speaks about her comments on Swift at all, as the Knicks could end the Finals with a win in San Antonio on Saturday (June 13).
Regardless, Swifties made their feelings towards the analyst crystal clear online, as one claimed: "Casual misogyny from other women in the big 2026. I thought it was understood women can like sports by now…"
Another added: "Being on air or not, you're still working, this is your job. Inform yourself first or just shut up. The level of unprofessionalism is insane, studying to make this your job, and being known for one night only for a mean comment is pretty embarrassing."
A third said of Swift's attendance at the game: "This isn’t the first time Taylor’s been to a Knicks game nor is it the first time she’s showed support to them.
"What was the point of being rude? Surely as a female analyst Monica McNutt should be excited about the amount of female fans this will bring attention to the game?"
Despite being born in Pennsylvania, Swift is a Knicks fan, and even wore a shirt in the team's colors while courtside on Wednesday night.

Basketball fans were convinced Taylor Swift "knew the script" after a video showed her celebrating while the New York Knicks were still trailing behind in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
The 36-year-old singer was among a host of celebrities packed into Madison Square Garden on Wednesday (June 10) as the Knicks faced the San Antonio Spurs.
At one stage, there seemed to be very little for Knicks fans to be excited about as the Spurs dominated the opening half and took a 76-49 lead into the break.
Spurs' advantage later stretched to 29 points, putting the Knicks on the brink of defeat.
But surprisingly, the Knicks managed to pull off a record-breaking comeback by scoring 26 points in the third quarter before scoring another 32 points in the final period, leading to a dramatic 107-106 victory.
The win means that the Knicks lead the series 3-1 and are just one victory away from their first NBA championship since 1973.
Before the comeback was complete, a clip of the 36-year-old 'Karma' singer enjoying herself courtside began making the rounds on X.
The footage shows Swift performing a brief dance alongside Alana and Este Haim before taking her seat.
The moment quickly sparked jokes from fans convinced the Grammy-winning star somehow knew what was about to happen.
"Most obvious script I've ever seen," one user wrote. Another quipped: "You gotta give credit where credit is due... she believed when no one else did. She knew the script."
But not everyone agreed with the conspiracy theories. "She has a winner mentality. Yall not familiar apparently," a third person argued.
A fourth fan added: "That was wild! I want Taylor at every Knicks game going forward."
Swift was joined by actress Mariska Hargitay and longtime friends Alana and Este from the band Haim.
The 'Love Story' singer and Hargitay both donned blue shirts emblazoned with the phrase "Stevie Knicks" in orange lettering. Meanwhile, Alana sported a shirt reading "Knickelback," while Este wore one featuring the phrase "Knicole Kidman."
Other celebrities in attendance included Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Ben Stiller, Spike Lee, Adam Sandler, and Michael J. Fox.
Swift's appearance generated headlines for more than just her courtside celebration.
During an off-air conversation, members of the Knicks radio team were discussing whether the singer had arrived at the arena.
After broadcasters attempted to confirm the sighting, someone asked: "Is that Taylor Swift down there?"
Once it was confirmed that she was in attendance, Knicks radio analyst Monica McNutt appeared unimpressed. "She's not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl," she said.
The comment quickly spread across social media and sparked backlash from Swift's fanbase.
"Being on air or not, you're still working, this is your job. inform yourself first or just shut up. the level of unprofessionalism is insane, studying to make this your job, and being known for one night only for a mean comment is pretty embarrassing," one fan wrote.
Another added: "Casual misogyny from other women in the big 2026. I thought it was understood women can like sports by now…"
A third fan noted that Swift's support for the Knicks is nothing new, as she's attended several games at Madison Square Garden over the years.

Super Bowl LIX delivered plenty of drama on the field, but one of the biggest shockers of the night had nothing to do with football.
Taylor Swift, who was in attendance at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, received an unexpectedly hostile reaction from the crowd.
When the pop megastar appeared on the jumbotron, boos erupted throughout the stadium — a moment that quickly went viral.
Swift, always quick on her feet, appeared to catch on to the reaction, offering a hilariously sarcastic side-eye. She was also seen exchanging a nervous glance with rapper Ice Spice before seemingly asking: "What is going on?"
The frosty reception has sparked a wave of support for Swift, with celebrities and fans alike rushing to her defense.
Swift’s friend and tennis legend Serena Williams wasted no time in showing her support, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those booo!!”
Meanwhile, Swifties and NFL fans have taken to social media to call out the reaction, with one user writing: "The booing is so lame like she’s literally just supporting her boyfriend."
Another added: "People booing as if it’s not her home team and her boyfriend's team — grow up."
A third slammed the negativity, saying: "Y'all booing shows how fragile your masculinity is. She will always be richer, more famous, and more talented than you’ll ever be."
While some are blaming Eagles supporters for the chilly reception, the backstory goes beyond just team rivalry.
Back in 2023, Swift found herself at the center of a Philadelphia sports debate after telling fans at her Eras Tour show in Philly that lyrics from her song "Gold Rush" referenced her love for the Eagles. However, some fans weren’t sure if she meant the band or the football team.
Swift later clarified: “I saw some people wondering if it was the band Eagles or the team the Eagles. And I love the band the Eagles... But guys, like come on. I’m from Philly. Of course, it’s the team.”
Despite her Philadelphia roots, Swift’s very public support for the Chiefs — and her relationship with Kelce — has clearly rubbed some Philly fans the wrong way.
Swift’s frequent appearances at Chiefs games have been a hot topic among NFL fans, with some arguing that the league and broadcasters focus on her too much. The debate got so intense that even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had to address it ahead of last year’s Super Bowl.
When asked whether Swift’s presence was part of a scripted NFL storyline, Goodell shut down the theory, joking: “I don’t think I’m that good a scripter, or anybody on our staff... Listen, there’s no way I could have scripted that one. Let’s just put it that way.”
He also praised the singer, adding: “She’s a remarkable performer. She knows great entertainment...She’s the best of the best, and so having her come to NFL games, to have her be a part of that is nothing but a positive.”
Beyond Swift’s headline-making moment, Super Bowl LIX has already delivered plenty of viral moments.
Actors Jon Hamm and Bradley Cooper took the field to introduce their respective teams, but Hamm—a die-hard Chiefs fan—became an instant meme after his voice cracked mid-speech, while Cooper delivered a smooth, confident intro for the Eagles. Fans wasted no time comparing the two.
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show lit up the stadium, featuring a show-stopping appearance from SZA. And Lamar added more fuel to his fiery feud with Drake when he brought out his rival's ex onto the field.
And despite the drama, all eyes remain on the Chiefs and Eagles, as Kansas City chases an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl victory.
While Swift may have been booed, one thing is certain - her fans, friends, and fellow celebrities aren’t letting it slide.
