Sofia Vergara and her husband Joe Manganiello have announced that they are separating after seven years of marriage.

The celebrity couple - who got married in 2015 - confirmed the news on Monday (July 17) in a statement issued by their representatives.

As Vergara, 51, and Manganiello, 46, reflected on how much love they still have for each other, they also asked for privacy amid the news of their divorce.

"We have made the difficult decision to divorce," the couple shared in a statement to Page Six. "As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."

The breakup news comes after the Modern Family actress was spotted celebrating her 51st birthday during a trip through Italy. While she shared posts from the vacation on Instagram, none of the photos featured Manganiello or her wedding ring.

A source told the publication: "Sofía and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future."

In addition to this, the True Blood star raised eyebrows last week after sharing a tribute post for the actress' birthday which featured a pixelated and blurry throwback photo of the couple.

The Magic Mike star simply captioned the snap "Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!", which led to fans claiming that he should've put more effort into his birthday post for his wife.

One user wrote: "Am I the only one who doesn’t like the way it sounds? 'Sofia'.... not even 'My love, My beloved wife'..."

Another person said: "And it’s over……" while a third commented: "Oh no. There's trouble in paradise. I can sense it."

Vergara - who has a 31-year-old son named Manolo with first husband Joe Gonzalez - first met Manganiello in May 2014 while attending the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

The pair went on their first date in June of that year while the Colombian beauty was filming Hot Pursuit, as revealed by the Rampage actor during an interview with Haute Living in 2015.

However, Manganiello disclosed that Vergara had her qualms about dating again, as she had recently gotten out of a four-year relationship with Nick Loeb.

"But we knew right away, and she knew she was screwed," he said about his feelings for her. "I said to her: 'If you need to be single, go do it and do it now if that’s what you need to do,' and she didn’t.

"She tried to stay away from actors and I tried to stay away from actresses as much as possible, because of the fear of being away from each other. What happened then was that we wound up in relationships with people who didn’t understand us," he added.

He also admitted that they got to know each other in a short time, before he "went and got a ring and made it official" in December 2014.

The soon-to-be ex-couple tied the knot in Palm Beach, Florida in November 2015 in front of 400 guests - including Vergara’s co-stars Ariel Winter, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland, and Ty Burrell, as well as Manganiello’s True Blood co-stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.

Three years after their nuptials, the Spider-Man star opened up about his marriage to the actress, telling Cigar Aficionado that the biggest adjustment for him was "coming to grips with the idea that someone who is not related to you could possibly love you that much".

"She was it for me," he sweetly said, adding: "People say things like: 'Marriage and relationships are work.' But it’s not. Life is hard. Having somebody to help you deal with it is the greatest thing that ever happened."
