The internet is calling for women-only gyms after a woman claimed a male gym-goer took a photo of her while she was working out
Julia, a fitness influencer with a popular TikTok account, called out the unnamed man in a video she posted back in April 2021.
In the caption, the young woman wrote: "I was honestly gonna post this on here when it happened but it was a bit too sensitive at the time lol. genuinely curious what you guys think [sic]".
In the clip, Julia is seen working out on a bench, with her camera positioned in such a way that she could adequately film her technique for her followers.
The alleged voyeur is then seen coming up behind her and squatting while holding his phone. His phone appears to be pointing in Julia's direction for a short moment, after which he stands up and walks off to talk to another person at the gym.
The original clip racked up over several million views on the social media platform, and though Julia told her followers that the man in question denied having taken a picture of her, most people agreed that he did.
One person wrote: "He definitely took a picture and showed the other guy."
A second agreed: "1000% took a picture."
A third penned: "YEAH DEFINITELY DID!!"
In addition to those comments, many others were insisting that women-only gyms should be a thing.
In a later video, Julia revealed that she did end up telling the staff at the gym about the incident at the time and they spoke to him. According to her, he then "got really mad about it" and abruptly left. She said she isn't aware of whether he's been allowed back into the gym as she hasn't been back herself.
Julia went on to explain that she posted about it on her Instagram account and the man found the post and messaged her to deny once again that he had done anything.

A female fitness influencer has shared the moment a male gym-goer appears to take a photo of her while working out - leading to people online calling for "women-only gyms".
Last week, TikTok user @juliaapic shared a video with her 246,000+ followers that showed what she believes was an inappropriate incident at her gym.
Julia captioned the clip: "was honestly gonna post this on here when it happened but it was a bit too sensitive at the time lol. genuinely curious what you guys think [sic]".
The video in question shows Julia working out on a bench, with her camera placed in front of her in order to record her technique.
A man behind her - wearing a grey sweatshirt and a face mask - can then be seen positioning himself behind Julia and squatting down with his phone in his hands. After a brief moment of having his phone camera pointed at Julia, the man stands up, casually walks away, and starts to talk to his friend.
The video has since amassed over 15.4 million views on the social media platform, and despite Julia saying that the man denied ever taking a photo of her, other social media users were in agreement that he did:
Additionally, many people in the comments sections are now calling for women-only gyms:
Other TikTokers revealed that experiences like Julia's are the exact reason they have chosen not to become a member of any gyms:
One user even commented: "And this is why I don't go to the gym anymore! I've had too many uncomfortable experiences!"
Two days later, Julia posted a video update replying to many comments from the original post that told her to inform the gym's management.
In the update, Julia explains that she did tell staff after she spotted the same guy "eye up the girl on the machine" next to her.
According to Julia, staff then apparently confronted the man, who then "got mad" and stormed out. She claims that staff also made a note on his account.
After posting the original video on Instagram, Julia also says that the guy in the video found her account and started messaging her denying that he took a photo, as well as saying some "rude things".
Julia adds that she hasn't been back to the gym since the incident occurred.

A woman has taken to social media to praise a male gym-goer for not staring at her while she was working out.
Over the last few months, there have been multiple stories about women sharing videos and social media posts about how they feel harassed and creeped out when visiting their gym. Recent viral videos show women confronting the guys for staring at them as they worked out, and another even showed how a female gymgoer painted a "hickey" onto her neck to deter any male attention.
Now, one woman has gone viral for the opposite - praising a guy who kept his eyes diverted as she was performing some deep squats.
Athlete Libby Christensen (@libbychristensen) recently took to TikTok to share the clip, which she captioned: "ty for your service kind sir."
Check out her video below:In the video, Christensen can be seen at the forefront performing her reps, as a guy sits on a bench behind her. However, despite the many stories we've seen circulated online over the last 12 months, the gentleman does not look over at Christensen, and keeps his eyes on the floor until he is ready to resume his own workout.
On the video, Christensen wrote: "I just need to shout out this man who was behind me while I was hack squatting [because] I was so uncomfy that I was being stared down but very thankful that my booty was not his focus."
She added that after watching the video back, she "felt at ease".
The video has since amassed over 4.5 million views, with many commenters sharing their thoughts on the situation.
One TikToker wrote: "This is gym code 101 for any decent guy. Head stays looking at the ground or your phone till your done with the set."
A second commented: "Every man should have this respect for a woman lifter beside them."
Another added: "Anytime I'm in this situation I always try to start my set the same time he does so I don't make him uncomfortable."
And sharing a male perspective on the situation, one guy wrote: "When I’m in this position at the gym I have to move in fear of the woman thinking I’m a creep. The uncomfortable feeling goes both ways sometimes."
To which Christensen replied: "Most definitely feel you here! It’s hard to gauge [people's] intentions especially when we all walk around in silence!"
The gym should be a place where everybody feels comfortable - and it never hurts to show a little consideration for our fellow gym-goers.

For many women, the gym can be an uncomfortable place.
Having to deal with men watching you or - worse still - trying to talk to you doesn't exactly make working out any easier. So it's no surprise that when one TikToker shared a video of her female-only gym, some women got very excited.
However, they weren't the only ones interested in the clip, which sparked a debate about whether women-only gyms were a form of "segregation".
The debate was sparked after TikTok user @heatherhuesman posted a video tour of her women's only gym captioned "The BEST GYM! We need these everywhere, we feel so safe and comfortable going to the gym."
As well as explaining that it was open 24/7 to women only, the video shows how you can't see through the gym's windows, in order to afford those inside total privacy.
It also demonstrated the securely locked doorway only accessible to members and pointed out a sign letting women know when male staff would be in the building.
On top of all these features, the video showed that there are even free menstrual products on offer.
A lot of women took to the comments section, saying how much they loved the idea.
"We need more of these!" one wrote.
"That's a dream," another commented.
"This looks so cool! I hope there are some in my area," a third added.
However, a lot of others disagreed, arguing that a women's only gym was a form of segregation.
"This is textbook segregation," one user commented.
"Now THAT'S sexist," agreed a second.
A lot of women clapped back, asking men why they were getting so riled up about something that didn't really affect them.
"Why are men getting mad that women have a place they feel safe at?" asked one.
"Why do you care? It will mean less people at other gyms so surely that just a good thing," pointed out another.
"This isnt a new concept why are men mad," wrote a third, adding "Let women feel comfortable."
Not all men were opposed to the idea - some even commented saying they supported it.
"As a male I think that this is a good idea because some men these days are really weird and is also good for religious people," one guy wrote.
This story comes after one woman shared her "hickey hack" she developed in order to deter men from bothering her at the gym. And this personal trainer was praised by social media users after her response to a guy she says she caught staring at her while she worked out at the gym.

A woman has taken to social media to share the moment she confronted a male gymgoer who took a photo of her as she worked out.
Janelle Rodriguez took to TikTok (under the handle @j_rodriguezxo) to share several videos detailing the troubling incident.
In the first video, captioned "Creep exposed", Rodriguez can be seen approaching a man at her Planet Fitness. Clearly out of breath from her workout, Rodriguez can be heard asking the man: "Hi, how you doing? Someone just came and told me that you took a picture of me?"
The man - who says his name is "Bob" - quickly denies the accusations, which prompts Rodriguez to ask to see the camera reel on his phone, which he declines.
Unsatisfied with the man's answer, Rodriguez tells "Bob" she is going to ask staff to review footage from security cameras.
In the second video, the man finally pulls out his phone and begins flicking through, as Rodriguez tells him: "I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it."
However, after turning his screen to show Janelle, she writes over the video: "He didn't show me the most current pic, I saw a close up of my butt on his phone".
Understandably angered by seeing a photo of herself on the man's phone, Rodriguez starts shouting at the man: "Delete it right now, before I make a f***ing scene!"
In the third video, an irate Rodriguez screams at "Bob": "Delete it right the f*** now, that's very disrespectful - how dare you!?"
She adds: "How dare you take a picture of me while I'm working out - take a picture of my a**!"
All the while, "Bob" repeatedly tells her to "relax" as he tries to leave the gym - but Rodriguez prevents him from doing so.
In a fourth video, Rodriguez tells "Bob": "My body is not for you to f***ing take a picture of!"
She then instructs him to prove that he has deleted all the pictures of her from his phone - including the ones in the 'Recently Deleted' folder.
Rodriguez has since revealed on her TikTok account that "not once" did any member of staff from Planet Fitness come to check on her to see if she was okay, despite the gymgoer claiming that employees at the front desk witnessed the entire altercation.
She has since revealed that "Bob's" gym membership was revoked.
In the comments section of the videos, Rodriguez was praised by fellow social media users for standing up for herself, with one person writing: "If she didn’t persist, he would never delete them pics. I’m so proud of baby girl."
And in response to some people trying to downplay the act by saying it was "just a photo", one commenter wrote: "How are women supposed to feel safe working out there? It's more than just a picture".

A woman has claimed that a man at her gym handed her a framed photo of herself after keeping it on his own bedside table for days.
TikToker Mackenzie, who goes by the username @liftymcthicc, posted a video last month showing three of the photos that the man gave her, one of which was framed.
Playing in the background of the clip is a sound bite from America's Next Top Model in which the show's creator and main judge, Tyra Banks, can be heard telling a group of competing models: "How many people were scared? Me too. I was really, really scared."
Check out the video below:At the time of writing, the video has since racked up three million views and nearly 3,000 comments from concerned users on the platform.
Check out some of the comments the video received:
The fitness fanatic also posted the video to her Instagram account, this time including a lengthy caption to provide extra details.
In the post, Mackenzie revealed that she was actually the second girl that this had happened to.
She wrote: "I almost didn’t tell anyone at my gym cause as soon as this happened, I wanted to cry and leave. But I’m glad I spoke up, we can’t let things like this be seen as normal or okay."
The content creator went on to say that his interactions with her initially appeared "harmless", however, soon enough red flags began to emerge.
Mackenzie recalled how "he began to make comments about how I shouldn’t gain anymore muscle and then insisted on two different occasions that we take a photo together."
She added: "This man even confidently told me that he kept the FRAMED PICTURE of me on his night stand for 2 days before giving it to me !!! What the f*** is wrong with people, I’ll never know."
Mackenzie then shared how staff at the gym responded to the man's concerning conduct, explaining that they "put a warning on his account".
They also spoke to the man, which resulted in him getting "very defensive" and claiming that it, in actual fact, it was the girls who were supposedly asking him for pictures - not him.
The situation appeared to sort itself out when the man's son called the gym himself and told staff they needed to cancel his father's membership.
Mackenzie added: "I can’t even begin to imagine what he told his son for him to be that concerned about his father, but I’m just glad he’s gone."
Concluding her post, she advised other women to "stay safe" and "never feel bad for not being friendly to strangers."
The social media user reiterated the additional details in an update video posted to her TikTok account.
She explained that when she told the front desk about how uncomfortable she felt by the encounter, they initially told her they were not able to cancel his membership.
It was only when the man's son called the workout facility and told them to cancel his father's membership that the action was realized, she explained again.
Mackenzie continued, as she held up the framed photo of her: "I'm not sure if it's because he saw this lovely photo of myself sitting on his dad's bedside table for two days. Because that's what he told me he did with the photo."
She remarked at the end of the video: "So, I'm safe, I guess."
