During a press briefing with health officials on Sunday, President Trump urged American citizens - regarding the coronavirus pandemic - to "relax", adding that "we're doing great" and have "tremendous control" of the virus.
Trump also said: "We're learning from watching other countries, frankly. This is a very contagious virus, it's incredible, but it's something that we have tremendous control over.
"I think very importantly the young people, people of good health and groups of people just are not strongly affected."
The president continued:
"I think very importantly, young people, people have good health and groups of people just are not strongly affected. Elderly people that are not well or not well in certain respects are really a very dangerous group.
"We have to watch them. We have to protect them very much. We have to really watch over them and protect them because they are very vulnerable and with that if it's OK, I'm just going to go and make some calls. I'm talking about Federal Reserve. I think it's a tremendous thing that took place just now.
"I didn't know I'd be surprised on a Sunday. I don't know if that's ever happened on a Sunday before, but I would think there are a lot of people on Wall Street that are very happy. And I can tell you that I'm very happy I didn't expect this."
Despite Trump's claims that "we have tremendous control" of the virus, during the same briefing, Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading infectious disease expert said, per Yahoo, the “worst is, yes, ahead for us.”
Even Arnold Schwarzenegger is urging people to stay indoors amid the coronavirus outbreak:And now it appears that actor Chris Evans has a bone to pick with Trump's address and the way in which he seemed to 'downplay' the outbreak. He also took issue with the fact that Trump refused to take questions from the press.
Taking to social media, Evans wrote: “The president just ran off stage after his rambling press conference without answering a single question. America wants answers. America wants leadership. America doesn’t want a president who runs off stage during a crisis and lets Mike Pence do all the talking.”
"Like so many of you, unfortunately we’ve had to move some things around," he had tweeted earlier. "We’re making plans and will keep you updated. I hope everyone is planning ahead and seeking reliable information. Stay safe!!"
