Trump’s new Press Secretary Katie Zacharia refers to husband as 'my president' in awkward slip-up
Donald Trump's newest Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia, made an awkward slip-up during her first briefing that could be very awkward for President Trump.
Zacharia, who was preceded in the role by Karoline Leavitt, only held her first briefing for only around 15 minutes - during which time she took precisely three questions - but maybe the stress of the big moment got to her.
The first briefing by Trump's new Press Secretary was very important, as Zachariah will be in the post during this November's midterm elections - a pressure point for Trump and his government.
However, during her talk to the press in Washington D.C., she made a slip-up she may want to forget in a hurry.
Trump's new Press Secretary called husband "my President" in slip-up
Despite her first briefing only lasting approximately 15 minutes, Zacharia still found room for error.
She was asked by a member of the press at the conference how she was going to balance her new duties in Washington D.C while her family, including her husband and children, remained at home in California.
While confirming that her entire family would be making the move to Washington with her, Zacharia stumbled over her words and seemed to confuse her husband with President Trump.
"This idea of not spending evenings with my kids is completely unacceptable, so my president... uh excuse me, my husband is out here," Zacharia.
However, she seemed to recover quickly enough and even make light of the moment, quipping; "That's a good one."
Who is Katie Zacharia and what is her connection to Donald Trump?
Katie Zacharia, 46, is a political commentator who has worked previously for the Trump Media & Technology Group.
When announcing her appointment as his newest Press Secretary on Truth Social, President Trump classed her as "a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning."
Trump said that Zacharia previously worked as the Senior Communications Advisor to Truth Social and that she was a "devoted fan and member of MAGA."
Zacharia replaces the previous Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who left her position in August 2026 to spend more time with her family.
Leavitt's time as Press Secretary was both controversial and unprecedented in her outwardly combative relationship with the traditional broadcast media channels and her attempts to uplift non-traditional, right-wing leaning publications.
Just last month, Trump banned three of the biggest media outlets in the country from attending the White House, effective immediately.
