Machine Gun Kelly shares scary side effects of ‘near impossible’ blackout tattoos that covered his body
Machine Gun Kelly has opened up about the terrifying side effects of his "near impossible" blackout tattoos that cover his entire body.
Back in 2024, the 36-year-old - whose full name is Colson Baker - debuted extensive blackout ink sprawling across his arms, shoulders, and chest.
At the time, Baker offered little explanation for the unique design, created by celebrity tattoo artist Roxx, simply writing: "For spiritual purposes only" alongside photos of the artwork on Instagram.
Now, the 'Emo Girl' singer has opened up about the painful reality behind the tattoos in a new interview with Billboard Canada, revealing how the physical transformation led to a serious illness.
'My skin was turning yellow'
Speaking to the outlet, Kelly revealed his tattoo artist warned that the work would take two years to complete, but he pushed to get it done within two months, and this led to him getting sick.
"After the first week, we hit my lymph nodes around my armpits and shoulders, and I got really sick," he said. "My skin was turning yellow. I wasn't able to sleep. I stopped being able to move certain parts of my upper body."
Despite the alarming symptoms, MGK said he came out of recovery "extremely inspired".
"Not just because of what I had done, but because of what I had to overcome," he said.
MGK isn't finished with tattoos just yet
While the blackout ink already covers most of his upper body, the rapper-turned-rocker has shown no signs of slowing down when it comes to body art.
Earlier this year, he got the name of his younger daughter, Saga Blade Fox-Baker, inked in capital letters across the back of his right hand.
Saga is the daughter he shares with former fiancée Megan Fox. Although the pair split in late 2024 after around four-and-a-half years together, they welcomed their daughter in March 2025 and continue to co-parent.
Kelly also has a teenage daughter named Cassie from a previous relationship with Emma Cannon.
The 'Bloody Valentine' singer has frequently spoken about how much fatherhood means to him. "It recharges your will-to-live battery and recertifies your you-have-a-purpose-here sticker," he said, per PEOPLE.
During a separate conversation with Travis Mills for Apple Music, he reflected on the legacy he hopes to leave behind through his daughters.
“I’m just a grain of sand amongst trillions of other energy particles floating around here. I’m just grateful to have been able to have some time here, to get to know some really nice people and raise two little girls who are going to grow up and be better than I am and mean a lot more to people than I do,” he said.
