New details have emerged about the devastating moment Rob Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father’s body inside the family’s Los Angeles home – unaware that her mother had also been killed.
According to a report by The New York Times, Romy Reiner, 27, arrived at the couple’s Brentwood residence on the afternoon of Sunday, December 14, after being contacted by a massage therapist who was unable to gain access to the home. Concerned, Romy went to check on her parents.
What followed was a traumatic discovery that has since sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond.
Discovery Inside the Brentwood Home
Upon entering the house, Romy discovered the body of her father, celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner. At the time, she reportedly had no idea that her mother, Michele Singer Reiner, was also dead elsewhere inside the property; only later finding out after paramedics revealed the devastating news.
The outlet reported that Romy “fled” the home shortly after finding her father’s body, still unaware of the full scope of the tragedy unfolding around her.
A source close to the family later told the Times that Romy was informed by a paramedic afterward that her mother had also been killed.
Timeline of Events Following the Discovery
Law enforcement officials have said the bodies of Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found inside the home at approximately 3:40 PM on Sunday. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was not present at the house at the time.
Nick was later located by police several hours later, near the University of Southern California campus, where he was arrested around 9:15 PM that evening.
Authorities subsequently identified him as the sole suspect in the killings.
Charges Filed Against Nick Reiner
On Tuesday, December 16, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Nick Reiner had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors also filed a special allegation that he personally used a knife during the attacks.
If convicted, Nick faces a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman has also not ruled out seeking the death penalty.
“Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face,” Hochman said in a statement. “Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder and his wife of more than 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner’s murder, are shocking and tragic.”

Romy is the youngest of Rob and Michele Reiner’s three children, alongside brothers Jake, 34, and Nick, 32.
