Arnold Schwarzenegger once said that aching after a workout is what makes your muscles grow, which is what one fitness influencer was probably telling himself after a workout stunt went very wrong.

Earlier this year Bradley Martyn, a fitness influencer who has over 4 million Instagram followers, uploaded a TikTok of him attempting to bench press a person standing on a weight plate. Unsurprisingly, it didn't go down so well.

In the now-deleted TikTok posted on September 22, which got more than 17 million views, Martyn can be seen lying back on the bench, holding a rubber bumper weight above his chest.

His gym partner, fellow fitness influencer Angelina Maldonado - whose parents were both bodybuilders - then stands on top of the weight. Martyn begins repping the weight and Maldonado is seen shakily attempting to maintain her balance. Seconds later, she slips and falls, accidentally kicking the plate into Martyn's face.

The text overlay on the viral clip read: "POV: Dropping ur phone on ur face..."

In a subsequent YouTube clip detailing the incident - titled "I BROKE MY FACE..." - Martyn revealed that he was taken to hospital following the scary stunt.

Though, Martyn fortunately only needed 10 stitches.

"Two things I did wrong here: Have her spin around and use a bumper plate," he said in the video.

"I tried to lift a girl. Now, I've done this before where a girl sat down on a plate and I pressed her. But, someone was like, 'Why don't you have her stand up?’'and I was like yeah, that's cool, that's easy," Martyn added.

He maintained that using the rubber bumper plate was a mistake as it is much more difficult to balance on.

Martyn's unfortunate incident hasn't come as a surprise to many, who regularly see the overly-confident gym rat post dangerous videos of him performing various stunts in the gym. His stunts have led to him earning millions of followers.

Martyn has since uploaded another version of the TikTok, which shows the incident from another angle.

He also made sure to record a successful attempt at the stunt, getting Maldonado to turn around and stand on the plate facing away from Martyn. This clip now has 1.3 million views.

Many users joked about the incident in the comments, with one user writing: "When you try to impress your gym crush and it backfires [sic]."

Someone else added: "Did Brad ask if the girl was okay first or did he grab his hat first? What do you guys think?"

Others commented on the ridiculousness of the stunt, commenting: "What do you actually achieve from this?"

"Great lesson in gym safety [sic]," another user chimed in.

Maybe it's best Martyn leaves the stunts to the guys from Jackass.
