Despite millions of people around the world watching Prince Philip's funeral on Saturday (April 17), the limited guest list meant that the ceremony truly became an intimate family occasion.
As a result of Covid restrictions, only 30 guests were permitted to attend, meaning that only close family members were present. These included the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and, of course, brother Prince William and Prince Harry.
It cannot be denied that despite viewers watching the funeral to pay their final respects to the late Duke, eyes were firmly on the siblings following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey last month.
Their grandfather's funeral marked the first time the princes had been seen together since the interview, and the public waited with bated breath to see how the brothers would interact with one another.
Viewers first caught a glimpse of the siblings as they walked in the procession behind a modified Land Rover carrying Prince Philip's coffin - but they were separated by Princess Anne's only son, Peter Phillips.
Then, following the 50-minute ceremony, many viewers breathed a sigh of relief as both William and Harry could be seen walking and talking together alongside Kate Middleton.
And after watching the moment closely, people on social media have heaped praise on the Duchess of Cornwall for "stepping back" in order to "allow" the brothers share a moment together.
One Twitter user wrote: "I loved how Kate stepped away, to give William & Harry alone time".
Another typed: "Awww William and Harry walking & talking together, and Classy Kate stepping aside to give them space after #PrincePhilipfuneral.. this Mama's heart is full of Joy seeing this."
A third posted: "What a class act from Kate Middleton. She let the brothers walk and talk side by side #PrincePhilipFuneral".
"Good ol' Duchess Kate; playing a key role in getting the brothers speaking again - showing us all THAT'S how you put your partner first," another typed, adding: "She is a stronger, more selfless person than I ever credited xx".
A fifth praised the Duchess, writing: "Kate Middleton stepping back to let two brothers unite in grief and love. So lovely to see".
Another echoed: "I love that Kate stepped back and walked with Sophie & Lady Louise while the boys talked."
Kate also paid tribute to both the Queen and Princess Diana by wearing a pearl choker previously worn by the two royals in the past.
The Duchess had previously worn the statement jewelry piece to a celebration dinner to commemorate the 70th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip back in 2017.
Kate's sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, was sadly unable to attend the ceremony under the guidance of her physicians.
People confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex was watching the ceremony from her home in Montecito, California, after she was not cleared to travel so far along in her pregnancy.

Earlier today, Prince Philip was laid to rest following a beautifully simple ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.
However, despite a nation coming together to mourn the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh and support Her Majesty The Queen, attention was undoubtedly on brothers Prince William and Prince Harry.
The service was the first time the princes had been seen together since Harry and Meghan's groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Viewers first caught a glimpse of the siblings as they walked in the procession behind a modified Land Rover carrying Prince Philip's coffin.
But the brothers did not stand side-by-side as the public may have expected - instead, they were separated by Princess Anne's only son, Peter Phillips.
Then, following a Covid-compliant ceremony, many viewers breathed a sigh of relief as both William and Harry could be seen walking together - talking away alongside Kate Middleton.
The heartwarming sight led many to take to social media to praise the pair for coming together on their grandfather's funeral.
One Twitter user typed: "seeing william, harry and kate talking, and walking together was really great to see! [sic]"
A second social media user emphasized: "Prince William, Kate and Harry. Family comes first".
"Not a royalist but it did warm my heart seeing William, Harry and Kate so close," another tweeted.
A fourth social media user wrote: "Awww William and Harry walking & talking together, and Classy Kate stepping aside to give them space Sparkling heart after #PrincePhilipfuneral.. this Mama's heart is full of Joy seeing this."
Another person wrote: "Anyone else breathe a sigh of relief at seeing William and Harry walking and talking together?"
Prince Philip is now the 25th member of royalty laid to rest in the 200-year-old crypt beneath the castle.
The Duke's body will remain there until the death of his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, upon which time, the body will be moved to join the Queen's, along with her father in the King George VI Memorial Chapel.

As millions around the world tuned in to watch the funeral of Prince Philip, viewers could only watch as the Royal Family said a final farewell to the late Duke of Edinburgh in an intimate family ceremony.
As the ceremony unfolded, people took to social media to provide their thoughts and feelings on the somber occasion.
From the reunion of brothers Prince Harry and Prince William following the groundbreaking Oprah interview last month, to the Queen sitting alone as said goodbye to her husband of 73 years, people on social media wanted the Royal Family to know they were not alone and had the nation's full support.
However, one photograph of the Duchess of Cambridge has now circulated across social media, with Kate Middleton being showered with praise.
The image was captured by photographer Chris Jackson, who captured Kate, 39, staring directly into the camera as she arrived by car to the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle on Saturday (April 17).
Despite a mask covering her face, the Duchess is a vision of grace and beauty on what was a solemn day for her family and the nation as a whole.
Jackson would later share the image to his personal Twitter account, along with the caption: "The Duchess of Cambridge leaves Windsor Castle to join the procession to St George’s Chapel at HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral today."
The post has since amassed nearly 12,000 likes and almost 1,000 retweets as of this writing - with the image being shared on multiple social media platforms and published in various outlets.
Responding to Jackson's post directly, one person wrote: "Stunning photo and will be seen many, many times over the years to come."
A second supporter wrote: "This photo will be iconic. Well done, Chris. It’s stunning."
A third replied: "What's noteworthy is that she doesn't even try - this is just her. She's simply sitting in a car, looking out the window. She truly has no idea how beautiful she is. This is an otherworldly photo."
"This is by far the best and most poignant picture of Catherine, it's regal, dignified and expresses without words the world we are currently living in," typed another social media user.
A fifth typed: "The epitome of Royalty, without even trying, she is a natural future Queen Consort respectful of traditions, rules and protocol and very dignified."
Another Twitter user wrote: "A whole role model. Innate class and grace Always beautiful and impeccable".
And the praise online continued, as people were captivated by the stunning image of the future Queen Consort:
The Duchess of Cambridge also paid tribute to both the Queen and Princess Diana by wearing a pearl choker previously worn by the two royals in the past.
In a further nod to their enduring marriage, Kate had previously worn the statement jewelry piece to a celebration dinner to commemorate the 70th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip back in 2017.

Princes William and Harry were reunited in grief at Windsor Castle yesterday, as they viewed floral tributes to Queen Elizabeth II.
The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen shaking hands and speaking with members of the public, just one day after King Charles III addressed the nation.
Many of the high-profile members of the Royal Family were seen visiting memorials to the late Queen across the UK. It was the first time the four royals were seen out in public since the death of Britain's longest-reigning monarch on September 8.
Wearing black, the unexpected appearance from both brothers' show of unity in mourning was greeted with applause and cheers by onlookers, who had visited the site to pay their respects to their grandmother.
According to the Independent, a royal source said that the 40-year-old Prince of Wales invited his younger brother to join him for their first public appearance together since the unveiling of a statue of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales in July 2021.
They both attended a service of thanksgiving for the Queen’s platinum jubilee earlier this year but insiders said that they did not speak.
The reunion comes after relations reportedly deteriorated in the wake of Prince Harry, 37, and Markle, 41, bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, and their announcement that they would step down from their senior royal duties in January 2020.
Their walkabout also came as Prince William issued a heartfelt tribute to the woman he knew as "grannie", praising her as an "extraordinary" leader for the country and a source of wisdom and reassurance for her family.
"I knew this day would come, but it will be sometime before the reality of life without Grannie will truly be real," he said. "I will honor her memory by supporting my father, the King, in every way I can."
Following Her Majesty's death, her coffin will leave Balmoral on Sunday (September 11) for the first leg of its journey towards the state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September by traveling to Edinburgh, where it will lie in St Giles’ Cathedral.
King Charles III has ordered the day of his mother's funeral to be a Bank Holiday across the whole United Kingdom, to allow millions of British citizens to participate in the final farewell to the monarch who reigned for over seven decades.
After being formally proclaimed King in an accession ceremony at St James’s Palace in London on Saturday, September 10, he paid tribute to his mother’s reign for "its duration, its dedication, and its devotion" and promised to follow her example.
Also, in an address to the nation hours after the late Queen’s death, King Charles confirmed William as the new Prince of Wales and also sent a message of "love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas".
The King's comment was seen as an attempt to heal the tension which has expanded since the Sussexes' "Megxit" move to California and their decision to speak out about life inside the royal family.

Prince Phillip's sweet reaction to Prince William and Kate Middleton's early split in their relationship is nothing short of a tear-jerking one.
As the royals celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary today, William's late grandfather's reaction to the pair's initial split had royal fans reaching for the tissues.
The nation endured heartbreak when Buckingham Palace announced that the Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully on April 9, at the age of 99.
But his wise words live on as fans around the world remembered his sweet reaction.
Turning to his wife the Queen during William and Kate's wedding in 2011, The Duke of Edinburgh said: "Thank goodness he didn't give her up."
William and Kate endured a few rocky bumps at the start of their relationship.
After meeting at St Andrews university in Scotland, the pair formed a close friendship, which later blossomed into a deep romance.
However it was in 2007 when they first parted ways, after William reportedly ended their relationship with an hour-long phone call, per The Mirror.
The pair got back together 10 weeks later after realising they couldn't live without each other. Their wedding then came after an eight-year relationship.
It comes as the pair have been flooded with well wishes and celebratory messages as they mark 10 years of their official union.
Her Majesty was among the well-wishers, sending a sweet message to her grandson and his wife.
Alongside a picture of the couple, the Queen wrote: "Wishing The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a very happy wedding anniversary.
"Today marks ten years since Their Royal Highnesses exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey."
Meanwhile William's dad Prince Charles, and his wife Camilla also sent a message, which read: "Wishing The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a very happy 10th wedding anniversary."
The pair released two new images to mark the special day.
Snapped by photographer Chris Floyd, the heartwarming pictures show Will and Kate share a sweet embrace in the grounds of Kensington Palace.
Kate has now spent a decade as a fully signed up member of the royal family.
They now have three children: seven-year-old Prince George, Princess Charlotte, five, and three-year-old Prince Louis.

Today saw the Royal Family turn out in full force to say their final goodbyes to the late Queen Elizabeth II, as the late monarch's incredible state funeral took place.
However, there was one young royal whose absence was sorely missed by viewers.
While nine-year-old Prince George and seven-year-old Princess Charlotte joined their parents, the new Prince and Princess of Wales, in mourning the Queen, the youngest member of the family was left at home during the funeral service at Westminster Abbey and following events.
It seems Prince William and Princess Catherine decided against bringing their third child who - at just four years old - was reportedly deemed too young to take part in a royal event of such a solemn nature.
But just because he wasn't able to attend his great-grandmother's funeral doesn't mean that the nation forgot the cheeky prince, who is known for getting up to all sorts of mischief during royal events.
Many people took to Twitter to lament that Prince Louis hadn't been allowed to join the procession - and to speculate about what sort of trouble he'd be causing if he had.
"A very serious day of course, but I think most people are wondering what shenanigans we would be seeing if Prince Louis was there today. I bet even the Queen had many a giggle at him," one person tweeted.
"Can you imagine Prince Louis trying to keep quiet the whole way through?? The antics we'd see," another wrote, while a third commented: "Kinda miss Prince Louis, was looking forward to seeing him."
Others joked that - having been left home alone - the little Prince was probably wreaking quite enough havoc where he was.
"Would love to see a Home Alone type film of Prince Louis left to his own devices at Buckingham Palace today. Absolute carnage I imagine," one person tweeted. Another joked that they'd like to have a glimpse at what he was up to, tweeting: "Personally think that channel 5’s alternate viewing should have been 'Prince Louis roams the palace'."
However, for the most part, people were in agreement that not letting Louis attend the state funeral was for the best.
"Not really the place for a four year old is it. Whatever the reason. The decision was the right one," one person tweeted. Another shared a picture of London burning with the caption: "The alternate universe where Prince Louis is in the funeral procession."
Despite not attending the Queen's funeral, Princess Catherine revealed last week that Prince Louis is mourning in his own way.
While chatting to well-wishers at Windsor Palace on Saturday, September 10, the Princess of Wales revealed that her youngest son had had some words of comfort for her.
"I was really sad when I found out and Louis said, 'Mummy, don't worry, because now Gan Gan is with great-grandpa,'" she recalled.
Prince Louis really should be protected at all costs - what a national treasure!
