As the youngest of Donald Trump's five children, Barron Trump has largely stayed out of the public eye, and now a family member has revealed why.
The explanation came from Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump, during a recent episode of her Right View podcast, where she spoke about Barron's preference for keeping a low profile despite growing public fascination with him.
Donald Trump shares his three eldest children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, with his late first wife, Ivana Trump.
He later welcomed daughter Tiffany with Marla Maples before having his youngest child, Barron, with First Lady Melania Trump.
Since Trump's return to the White House in January, Barron has only made a handful of public appearances. He attended his father's inauguration, a Thanksgiving gathering at Mar-a-Lago, a New Year's celebration and the 2026 State of the Union address, where he sat alongside his siblings.
Unlike Donald Jr. and Ivanka, who frequently make headlines, Barron has remained largely absent from public events and media attention.
According to Lara, that's intentional. "I feel like he's the sleeper," she claimed. "You want to hear more about Barron because you see less of him. And I think that's kind of cool."
She suggested Barron is aware of the public fascination surrounding him and prefers to avoid unnecessary attention.
"I don't know if he realizes the internet is 'obsessed' with him, but he knows that there's a lot of interest, which is why he likes to lay low. That's why he likes to play it cool."
Lara added: "That's why you don't see him all the time."
She also noted that Barron's college studies may contribute to his low profile. The 20-year-old is currently studying business and, according to Lara, is eager to begin his career once he graduates.
She said he is "excited to finish college and get out and work, which I love."
Reflecting on how long she has known him, Lara joked: "It's crazy because I've seen Barron grow up, which means I'm 160 years old."
She went on to praise him, adding: "But he's turned out to be a really great kid."
Lara also revealed that Barron is highly aware of current events and online trends, particularly when it comes to artificial intelligence.
"In fact, we had a huge discussion at dinner on Sunday night at the White House about whether a certain image, I won't tell you what it is, was AI or real," she said.
According to Lara, only she and Barron correctly identified the image as AI-generated.
"And Barron and I were the only two that said, 'That's AI. You guys are all wrong. It's AI.'"
She added with a laugh: "We were right. Proved it that night."
Despite Lara’s adamance that Barron’s low-profile is purely intentional, at 6 feet 7 inches tall, maintaining an unobtrusive presence is a tall order, quite literally.

The reason for Barron Trump’s low profile and avoidance of the spotlight has finally been revealed by his sister-in-law.
This week, Lara Trump, the wife of Barron’s second-oldest brother, Eric, discussed why the president’s youngest son tries to remain under the radar.
On her podcast, Right View, she revealed that the 20-year-old is very conscious that he's considered a high-profile figure who is often the centre of strange online conspiracy theories.
Lara said, "I feel like he’s the sleeper.
"You want to hear more about Barron because you see less of him. And I think that’s kind of cool.
"I don’t know if he realises the internet is 'obsessed' with him, but he knows that there’s a lot of interest, which is why he likes to lay low. v
"That’s why he likes to play it cool.
"That's why you don’t see him all the time."
Former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, Lara, added that Barron’s current studies at New York University in Washington, D.C. may also contribute to his rare sightings.
She claimed that the young business student is 'excited to finish college and get out and work,' and she added, 'which I love'.
Lara continued, "It's crazy because I've seen Barron grow up, which means I'm 160 years old.
“But he's turned out to be a really great kid."
Barron clearly has a very different attitude to his public image compared to his four siblings, particularly Ivanka and Donald Jr, who are constantly making international headlines.
The president has five children with three different mothers: Donald Jr, 48, Ivanka, 44, and 42-year-old Eric, with his first wife, Ivana, who died in 2022; Tiffany, 32, from his second short-lived marriage to Marla Marples; and Barron, 20, with first lady Melania Trump.
As the only child of the president and the first lady, who was also very young the first time his father entered the Oval Office, there is arguably more public pressure on Trump’s youngest son.
But, since his father’s return to the White House last January, Barron has only been spotted in public a handful of times, including at a Mar-a-Lago Thanksgiving dinner, at a New Year's celebration, and at the February 2026 State of the Union address, where he sat with his siblings in the House chamber.
Despite his low profile, Barron’s sister-in-law explained that his decision to lay low is rather wise, and he is totally aware of “what’s going on out there”.
She added, "In fact, we had a huge discussion at dinner on Sunday night at the White House about whether a certain image, I won't tell you what it is, was AI or real.
"And Barron and I were the only two that said, 'That's AI. You guys are all wrong. It's AI.
"We were right. Proved it that night."

Barron Trump reportedly snubbed all but one of his famous siblings at his 20th birthday party the other day, inviting just one.
The youngest Trump offspring was reportedly told who to include and exclude by his mother.
The youngest of the children of President Donald Trump, Barron turned 20 on March 20, and reportedly celebrated with a party.
Despite a few recent news stories, Barron actually lives a pretty reclusive life, and not much is known about him - although much is speculated.
One thing that we have heard is that he is reportedly very close to his mother, First Lady Melania Trump, and she is incredibly tight on what happens regarding him and the media.
So, it’s strange that a story like this would have emerged - if indeed it is true.
The story, first reported by well-known gossip journalist Rob Shuter on his Substack, claims that the guest list to Barron’s birthday bash was carefully controlled, and even being a direct relative didn’t guarantee an invite.
If the reports are to be believed - and we can’t be sure, of course - then even Barron’s siblings Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Trump Jr. didn’t make the cut.
The NYU student, who is the son of Donald and Melania, apparently just isn’t that close with his siblings, according to one of Shuter’s reported sources.
On the Naughty But Nice blog, he reported on March that Melania simply wanted her own beloved son to be the center of attention.
The source is reported as having said: “Melania is in charge, and she wanted this to be about Barron — not about Donald Trump, and not about his other children.”
That’s fair enough, right?
After all, it’s his big day.
The source continued: “This was a small, controlled, private celebration,,
“And certain people were simply not included.”
Those ‘not included’ reportedly included Donald’s kids from his first marriage to Ivana Trump, 48-year-old Don Jr., 44-year-old Ivanka, and 42-year-old Eric.
To be fair, would a 20-year-old want his half-siblings over twice his age at the party anyway?
According to Shuter’s source, Melania has ‘always kept Barron separate’ and was in charge of the guest list.
“They’re not close — at all. This wasn’t an oversight. They were left off the list,” the source said.
“Barron didn’t grow up with them in the same way. There isn’t a real bond there.” Everyone in the family is reportedly aware ‘who matters in Barron’s world’, and where everyone stands.
The one Trump sibling who was reportedly present was Tiffany Trump, who is just 12 years older than Barron, and then pair are reportedly closer.
In total, Donald Trump has five kids - although there are other claims out there - with Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric born to Ivana in in 1977, 1981, and 1984 respectively.
Tiffany is the daughter of Donald and his second wife, Marla Maples, and was born in 1993.
Barron was born in 2006 after Donald had married Melania.
Donald Trump Jr.’s intimate Bahamas wedding to Bettina Anderson featured several members of the famous family, but one notable Trump was nowhere to be seen.
The president’s eldest son legally married Anderson on Thursday before hosting a small Memorial Day weekend ceremony attended by around 40 guests. After saying “I do,” the newlyweds shared a photo from bed showing off their wedding rings, with Bettina writing on Instagram: “Forever yours, forever mine.”
Don Jr.’s five children with ex-wife Vanessa Trump were all present for the celebrations, including Kai, 19, Donald, 17, Tristan, 14, Spencer, 13, and Chloe, 11. Siblings Tiffany Trump, Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump also attended, with Ivanka later posting photos from the tropical getaway alongside husband Jared Kushner, Tiffany, and sister-in-law Lara Trump.
One family member who did not attend was Barron Trump, President Donald Trump’s youngest son with First Lady Melania Trump.
A source told journalist Rob Shuter that Barron was absent from the ceremony, with insiders also claiming he does not share a particularly close relationship with his older half-siblings.
“Barron grew up in a completely different world from Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany,” a source told Shuter. “There’s emotional distance there, and everyone in the family knows it.”
Barron’s age gap with his siblings ranges from 12 years with Tiffany Trump to 28 years with Don Jr.
Another source also claimed that all of Barron’s siblings except Tiffany were excluded from his 20th birthday party in March.
“They’re not close — at all,” the insider claimed, adding that Melania was in charge of the guest list.
“Melania is in charge, and she wanted this to be about Barron — not about Donald Trump, and not about his other children,” the source claimed.
“She’s always kept Barron separate.
“Barron didn’t grow up with them in the same way. There isn’t a real bond there.”
Melania Trump was also absent from Don Jr.’s wedding celebrations.
Shortly after the Bahamas ceremony, Kai Trump was spotted back in Palm Beach, Florida, shopping with her mother Vanessa Trump.
The outing came just days after Vanessa publicly revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Barron has largely stayed away from public attention over the years, which has fueled online conspiracy theories about the 20-year-old, including bizarre claims that he is a time traveler.
President Donald Trump also missed the wedding, explaining on Truth Social that tensions involving Iran kept him in Washington.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
The wedding comes just months after Don Jr. and Anderson got engaged in December.

Barron Trump made a rare public appearance on Sunday, towering over both of his parents, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, at a UFC event held on the White House lawn, which has prompted many social media users to say the same thing.
The 20-year-old NYU student attended the UFC Freedom 250 fight with a longer, more tousled hairstyle, and the event coincided with his father’s 80th birthday.
A White House pool reporter said Barron took his role seriously, greeting supporters who came up to the President. He now lives in Washington, DC, after transferring to NYU’s local DC campus for his sophomore year.
Barron is rarely seen at White House events or family gatherings. His last public appearance alongside his mother and some of his siblings was at the State of the Union address in late February, and he also missed this year’s Easter Egg Roll, which is often attended by presidential children.
On Sunday, he was joined by his half-siblings Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Ivanka Trump, along with their spouses Bettina, Lara, Michael Boulos, and Jared Kushner.
Barron skipped the tie for the outdoor event but wore a jacket despite temperatures hovering near 80 degrees after sunset.
His appearance came months after he was praised by a judge for helping alert emergency services during an attack on a woman he knew.
The woman was being assaulted while FaceTiming Barron, and Judge Joel Bennathan later said: “Mr Trump properly and responsibly, despite being in the United States, made sure the emergency services here were called and he told them what he had seen,” Bennathan said. Barron had called a 999 operator from Florida and said: “I just got a call from a girl - she’s getting beat up.”
Barron has also shown more political involvement in recent years. He attended his first Trump rally in July 2024 at his father’s Doral golf course in Miami, just days before the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
His appearance has prompted discussion on social media, with many users making similar comments, with some even questioning whether it is really him.
One X user wrote: “His face is fatter did he gain weight. He looks different?”
Another said: “Ain’t no way that’s Barron Trump.”
A third added: “You can definitely tell who his father is without needing an introduction.”
