A newly surfaced photograph appears to capture the horrifying moments after a Texas mother-of-five was allegedly stabbed to death during a confrontation that has left three women facing murder charges.
Caroline "Caro" Peña, 32, died after suffering multiple stab wounds during an attack in Del Rio, Texas. Authorities have charged sisters Amaya "Cookie" Diaz, 19, and Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, along with 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz, with first-degree murder.
The image in question, reportedly taken moments after Peña was stabbed, shows her standing in a blood-soaked pink T-shirt with what appears to be a large red stain spreading across her back.
Nearby, three women are seen standing in the grass. Two of them are wearing clothing matching descriptions later released by investigators.
According to a criminal complaint, surveillance footage showed Cookie wearing a red tank top and blue jeans, while Kitty was dressed in a pink tank top and blue jeans. Police also noted Kitty could be identified by tattoos covering her right arm.
It remains unclear whether the third woman pictured, who is wearing a gray T-shirt, is Faz.
The photograph also appears to show a man holding Cookie by the shoulders, while Peña is facing another man believed to be her nephew, who reportedly drove her to a nearby hospital after the attack.
According to multiple sources, the image was briefly shared on a local Facebook community page before being removed after Peña died from her injuries at a San Antonio hospital around 9PM on Thursday.
For Peña's longtime friend, Zelina Ochoa, the photograph highlights the mother's determination to survive.
"She had just collapsed and she stood right back up," Ochoa previously told The Post.
Calling the image "very powerful," she added: "It shows, you know, these three girls showed up with their weapons and Caro showed up with nothing but her hands."
Del Rio Police Chief Frank Ramirez has confirmed that Peña knew the three women accused of killing her, although authorities have not revealed the nature of their relationship.
Police also have not announced a motive for the alleged attack, saying the investigation remains ongoing.
Court documents state that Faz told investigators Peña had "arrived at her residence looking to start a fight."
According to the complaint, surveillance footage allegedly shows the Diaz sisters arriving in a black Chrysler 300 before Cookie allegedly exited the passenger side carrying what investigators believe was a knife.
Police allege the footage captures Cookie striking Peña in the back, after which blood can be seen soaking through her shirt.
Investigators claim Kitty and Faz then joined the assault, allegedly attacking Peña before all three women fled the scene.
Just hours later, both Diaz sisters appeared unfazed as they were taken into custody.
Video recorded outside their home allegedly shows Kitty, barefoot and wearing black shorts and a halter-style top, briefly smiling as officers escorted her to a patrol vehicle.
Cookie also appeared to react to someone filming the arrest, smiling and laughing before sarcastically shouting: "Stop recording!"
The Diaz sisters and Faz remain behind bars after each was given a $5 million bond during their first court appearance.
All three requested court-appointed lawyers and have each been charged with first-degree murder.
