After watching the new season of Dead To Me, fans are calling for Christina Applegate to win an Emmy for her incredible performance.
The third and final installment of the hit Netflix show premiered on Thursday (November 17), and since then, fans haven't been able to stop talking about it.
With the season spanning over 10 episodes, we were taken on an emotional ride with Jen (played by Applegate) and Judy (played by Linda Cardellini) as they make one final effort to escape the law following the death of Steve, Judy’s ex-fiancé.
However, a dramatic crash during the finale of season two saw the best friends end up in the hospital and some heart-stopping revelations really put their friendship to the test.
While there's been a lot of talk about the latest season online, there has been one consistent theme at the forefront of the conversation: Christina Applegate's remarkable performance.
Fans were delighted to see Applegate throughout season three - especially given her multiple sclerosis diagnosis last year. For a while, there was speculation about whether or not the 50-year-old would be continuing her Dead To Me journey until the end of the season, but her determination and love for the job spurred her on.
During an interview with The New York Times, the Crash Pad actress outlined how her MS diagnosis affected the filming of the latest season.
"I had an obligation to Liz and to Linda, to our story," she said, despite show bosses apparently wanting to cease filming when she started receiving treatment.
"If people hate it, if people love it, if all they can concentrate on is, ‘Ooh, look at the cripple,’ that’s not up to me," she added. "But hopefully people can get past it and just enjoy the ride and say goodbye to these two girls."
And it's no surprise that fans absolutely loved it, so much so that they're calling for Applegate to win an Emmy for her work.
"Give Christina Applegate an Emmy, already. I’m 1 episode into Season 3 Dead to Me. She deserved it for the first 2 seasons, but what she went through to make this season, amazing actress!" Wrote one Twitter user.
"Give Christina Applegate her Emmy," another agreed.
"I only got one episode in to dead to me s3 so far but if this really is Christina Applegate’s last role, we’re gonna get her that Emmy," a third added.
Others also commended her co-star, Linda Cardellini, for her amazing performance too, with some even adding that they both deserve the Emmy next year.
"Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini both need to be nominated at the Emmy's for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series and they both need to tie and win it together," said this user, while another asked how they could "fix" the award so that they both can have it.
The news comes just days after Applegate received an honor that all TV and movie stars dream of; a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"I've had a really interesting life, but the life started as a little girl waiting in line to see the first Star Wars on this very street at that very theater," she said during her speech at the historical landmark.
"And looking at these things and going, 'Who are these people? What are these things? Did they do something right? Did they do something wrong? Whatever it is, I want one. I effing want one.' And I was five years old, so this day means more to me than you can possibly imagine."
Season three of Dead To Me is available to watch on Netflix.

Dead to Me actress, Christina Applegate, took to Twitter last week to confirm that work has begun on the hit Netflix show's second season.

"Here we go again," Applegate captioned the image, which showed her and Cardellini holding hands, with the script in front of them.
Cardellini shared the same photo on her Instagram, writing "Season 2 table read!! Here we go! Can’t wait for you to see what Jen and Judy are up to."

Dead to Me - which was created by Liz Feldman - stars Applegate as Jen Harding and Cardellini as Judy Hale. Jen and Judy quickly become friends after meeting each other at a grief support group; Jen's husband was killed in a hit-and-run accident, while Judy says she suffered several miscarriages. However, due to a series of unexpected twists, Jen ends up finding out the real reason behind her and Judy's connection.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Applegate - who picked up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series - disclosed how she had to be talked out of the "semi-retirement" she found herself in after starring in a slew of short-lived shows.
"It literally took them like dragging me out of my semi-retirement, because I was very happy with my kind of not showering life and doing what I want, and just raising my daughter," Applegate told the publication.
"So, what was it? It was a lot of things. It was really a unique premise and show, and I had known Liz Feldman and really loved her as a human being. I feel like if I'm going to be doing anything, if you're going to take me away from my kids for three months, it better be with an amazing group of people that are of quality and are kind, smart and interesting."

Pretty much everyone with access to a Netflix account is talking about the hugely successful series Dead To Me since it premiered on the site this past May.
Needless to say, given its success, the streaming giant officially announced that the show would be returning for a second season soon after the first season was released.

Starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, the Netflix Original series centres around an unlikely friendship between two women who meet in a grief support group.
Both women are dealing with loss in their own different ways. We find out in the very first episode that Applegate's character Jen recently lost her husband in a tragic hit-and-run accident, while Cardellini's character Judy is dealing with a loss far too complicated for a series premiere reveal.

In fact, Judy has a huge secret that she's battling with - and it has everything to do with her new best friend.
And now, the star of the show, Christina Applegate, has been spotted filming scenes for the upcoming second season. Interestingly, (spoiler alert) Judy's dead ex-husband was also seen shooting scenes, which begs the question... is he alive?!

The brilliantly-made dark comedy has an 87 per cent rating among critics, and a 93 per cent audience score on RottenTomatoes.com, and is sure to be a huge hit this awards season.
And those who adored every aspect of how season one played out will be pleased to know that 2 Broke Girls creator Liz Feldman will be returning as showrunner and executive producer for the second season.

In a piece on Glamour.com, Feldman describes in detail the dark origins of the show:
"With Dead to Me, I have definitely experienced some incredible luck. I got to birth an idea and grow it into a show that I now get to share with the world, via Netflix. Of course, my luck didn’t come in the form I had hoped for, but life is full of twists and turns. Just ask my best friend Kelly.
Tragically, five months into her pregnancy, she lost her baby. It was a devastating time. None of it made sense. Here was my beautiful, kind, wonderful friend experiencing a level of pain and loss she did not deserve. It was impossible not to be furious at the cruelty and relentlessness of life."
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the new season, but with the return of Liz Feldman and the series' two leading ladies, fans will be hoping that season two will be just as dark, dramatic and funny as the first.

Christina Applegate has opened up about the possibility of not working on camera again, amid her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis.
This came as the 51-year-old revealed that the SAG Awards earlier this year would be the last awards ceremony she would attend as an actor.
The Dead to Me actress - who confirmed her MS diagnosis in 2021 - had been nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series for her role as Jen Harding in the Netflix comedy.
It was her sixth-ever SAG nomination for the show, which is about a real estate agent who is seething with grief after the death of her husband and crosses paths with Judy Hale, a free-spirited woman who also suffered a tragic loss.

"It's my last awards show as an actor probably, so it's kind of a big deal," Applegate told the outlet. "Right now, I couldn't imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don't have that in me at this moment." Although acting was no longer on her radar, the Married... With Children star said she had her next career move in mind, revealing: "Doing a s*** ton of voice-overs to make some cash to make sure that my daughter's fed and we're homed".
Applegate spoke to Vanity Fair last week about her future in the industry, stating that her role in Dead to Me would "probably" be her last in front of a camera following her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2021. The actress also spoke about her on-screen partner, Linda Cardellini, with Applegate saying how they "were in love with each other" from their first day on set. She also spoke about her gratitude to be able to work with someone whose acting talents matched her own.
"It's rare that you have an equal playing field and you get to play ping-pong instead of tennis. There's a difference. Ping-pong is so much more fun when the other person is just as good as you are. I'm probably not going to work on camera again, but I'm so glad that I went out with someone who is by far the greatest actress I've ever worked with in my entire life, if not the greatest human I've ever known," she said.

Christina Applegate has revealed that her forthcoming appearance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards may be her final awards ceremony as a working actress.
The 52-year-old Dead to Me actress - who confirmed her MS diagnosis in 2021 - is nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series for her role as Jen Harding in the Netflix comedy.
This is her sixth-ever SAG nomination for the show, which is about a real estate agent who is seething with grief after the death of her husband and crosses paths with Judy Hale, a free-spirited woman who also suffered a tragic loss.
In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Applegate opened up about the award show season and shared that the upcoming ceremony will most likely be her final one as she continues to deal with the impacts of the disease.
"It's my last awards show as an actor probably, so it's kind of a big deal," Applegate told the outlet. "Right now, I couldn't imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don't have that in me at this moment."
Although acting is no longer on her radar, the Married With Children star said she has her next career move in mind, revealing: "Doing a s*** ton of voice-overs to make some cash to make sure that my daughter's fed and we're homed".
Her comments come almost two years after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. At the time, she was filming the Netflix series's final season and was forced to take a break to undergo treatment.
The actress hailed the "incredible" crew, showrunner, and costars, for their support during those difficult months in her interview with the publication.
She said that they were "Jen and Judy combined into a human, in the most perfect and beautiful way possible" - a reference to the close friendship between her character and Linda Cardellini's Judy Hale.
Applegate confessed that she was a "wreck" during filming of the final season, adding: "But most of that wreck would take place in my trailer by myself. But there were times I'd break down on set and be like, 'I can't, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour,' and everyone was so loving that it was OK."
The Vacation star previously battled breast cancer in 2008, which led to her undergoing a double mastectomy. She also had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in 2017.
She disclosed to the publication how challenging it was to watch the season once it aired on the streaming service because she doesn't like "seeing myself struggling".
"Also, I gained 40 pounds because of inactivity and medications, and I didn't look like myself, and I didn't feel like myself," she continued, expressing that she watched the show alone and stopped occasionally when it became too difficult.
"At some point, I was able to distance myself from my own ego and realize what a beautiful piece of television it was. All the scenes I wasn't in were so much fun to see and experience for the very first time," the actress added.
The 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards will be held on Sunday, February 26.

If you're looking for another highly addictive Netflix show to binge, good news! I'm the plug! Your latest fix is Dead To Me, a dark comedy, or 'traumedy,' starring two TV veterans: Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks, ER) and Christina Applegate (Married With Children, Samantha Who?).
In Dead To Me, Applegate plays Jen, a hotheaded real estate agent whose husband was killed by a hit-and-run driver. While attending a grief support group, she meets Judy (Cardellini), an eccentric free-spirit with a shocking secret. As their friendship blossoms, and Jen searches her husband's killer, things happen. Lots of things. Stuff, too!
What do you want, spoilers? I can't write spoilers, due to the American Anti-Spoiler Act, which states that any writer who spoils TV shows or movies will be sentenced to five years of hard labor in the coal mines. Wait, no, that's not a thing. I just dreamed that happened. Anyway, here's the trailer!

While the synopsis seems grim, there's plenty of opportunities of comedy, as you can see in the preview above. And that's no surprise, considering the show is produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company, Gloria Sanchez Productions. And Christina Applegate starred as Veronica Corningstone in the Anchorman movies! It all comes full circle. (There's even a sly Anchorman reference, where a mustachioed man comments on mahogany.)

So, what brought Applegate back to her first TV role in seven years? "It literally took them like dragging me out of my semi-retirement, because I was very happy with my kind of not showering life and doing what I want, and just raising my daughter," the actress told The Hollywood Reporter. "So, what was it? It was a lot of things."
"It was really a unique premise and show, and I had known [creator and showrunner] Liz Feldman and really loved her as a human being," Applegate continued. I feel like if I'm going to be doing anything, if you're going to take me away from my kids for three months, it better be with an amazing group of people that are of quality and are kind, smart and interesting."

Series creator Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls) based the story on her experiences with fertility, turning 40 and suffering the sudden death of her cousin. The supporting cast includes James Marsden (Westworld, 30 Rock), Max Jenkins (High Maintenance, The Mysteries Of Laura) and 89-year-old TV legend Ed Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Elf, Up.)
Well, there you have it. Your latest fix. Enjoy! Sincerely, your plug.
