After leaving her husband and the company they built together aged 35, Kaly Miller became a sex surrogate.
While she has coached virgins, sex addicts and people who have experienced sexual trauma, one of the most rewarding clients she ever helped was a young autistic man who was encouraged to start sessions by his parents.
The needs of clients Miller, 50, sees at her clinic, The Naked Room, vary hugely. She told The Sun: “Men came to see me to overcome issues including being unable to get an erection, premature ejaculation, fear of intimacy and body dysmorphia.”
However, women also go to see the Brazilian-born sex surrogate to receive help overcoming trauma after giving birth, learn how to orgasm, or face their fear of penetration.
One of the most rewarding parts of her unconventional career path is being able to help people, and one of the most memorable was a young man with autism whom she helped lose his virginity and, in turn, build his confidence.
According to Miller, his parents, who brought him to her sessions, were “so grateful,” and his dad even said to her: “Thank you for making him experience life as a man outside of his challenges.”
Before Miller meets up with a new client, she assesses them on a Zoom call to find out why they want to see a sex therapist and also observe their body language, which could give her an inkling as to how the sessions may run.
However, sadly this is also a necessary step because she has had people try and take advantage of her unconventional career choice and have tried to turn up and have sex with her. The screening process is not always foolproof, though.
Miller said: “A man was naked. I turned off my camera and told him that’s not what I’m here for.”
Once a client has completed the paperwork and provided a clean STI test, then they may start sessions at £250 ($334) for an hour or £1,250 ($1,668) for a day session of five hours.
Although Miller is adamant that a client must have at least three sessions in order to make proper progress, she caps them at 10 to prevent them from forming a romantic attachment.
The mom-of-four also shared that it is an important part of her job to take care of her physical appearance.
She said: “Before meeting a client, I prepare by going to the gym or doing yoga, and I meditate on my commute.
“Since I turned 50, I’m conscious I need look my best, so I see a dermatologist, and of course I regularly do kegel exercises to keep my pelvic floor muscles tight.”
