Donald Trump has left viewers disturbed after making a strange joke involving his two adult sons during an appearance in North Dakota.
The US president made the comment on Wednesday (July 1) while speaking at a Congressional Medal of Honour ceremony held at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library ahead of Independence Day celebrations on July 4.
A video shared online shows the 80-year-old looking toward his sons in the audience before launching into a joke that appeared to fall flat with the crowd.
"As I see my two beautiful sons sitting there, I think I'm going to give one to myself and one to them," Trump said on Wednesday. "We'll have a threesome."
"I'll pick out one of the two. I'll give them the Congressional Medal of Honour for something...for their genius at hunting," he continued. "And I'll get one for taking on Russia, Russia, Russia."
The audience responded with uneasy laughter as Trump quickly acknowledged the joke may not have landed as intended.
He then suggested it was "dangerous" to make the bizarre comment, claiming "fake news is up there."
"When I joke...I learned earlier, don't be sarcastic in politics," he added.
The president's attempt at humor didn't go down well with everyone, as one user wrote on X: "I just threw up in my mouth."
Another reacted: "What the actual f***," while a third added: "This is beyond disgusting and it shows the lack of respect for those serve and have served in the military."
The president's comment came as the White House released his annual financial disclosure.
The filing shows cryptocurrency has become one of the president's biggest sources of income.
Per the report, Trump earned more than $635 million through a licensing deal tied to his meme coin, with the value of his crypto holdings now exceeding $1 billion.
He also made more than $236 million from additional crypto token sales, over $65 million from the Trump family-backed crypto venture World Liberty Financial, and more than $290 million through cryptocurrency wallets linked to the business.
A White House spokesperson defended the 80-year-old's financial interests, saying: "Neither the President nor his family has ever engaged, or will ever engage, in conflicts of interest."
The spokesperson added: "President Trump proudly made the United States the crypto capital of the world through executive actions, supporting legislation like the GENIUS Act, and other commonsense policies to drive innovation and economic opportunity for all Americans."
The filing has prompted experts to comment on the scale of Trump's business empire.
Rice University historian Douglas Brinkley said: "What strikes me as remarkable is how many pies Trump has his fingers in.
"There is no precedent to compare it with. No president in the 20th or 21st century has had something that's vaguely comparable."
The filing also revealed that First Lady Melania Trump reportedly earned more than $10 million by licensing her image for the documentary, Melania, while Trump received complimentary tickets to sporting events from organizations including FIFA, NASCAR, the UFC, and the PGA of America.

A lip reader has revealed the alleged "concerning comment" Donald Trump made to his son while attending a golf tournament this week.
The 79-year-old president was at the LIV Golf event at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia, where he watched from behind bulletproof glass alongside Eric Trump.
According to professional lip reader Nicola Hickling, one private exchange between the pair appeared to offer a glimpse into Trump’s feelings about his upcoming birthday.
Hickling claimed Trump spoke candidly with Eric about turning 80 on June 14.
According to her, he said: "Yes, we were talking and he said, 'Dad, you know you're going to be 80 years old.' After he said this, I felt old," per The Mirror.
The president reportedly did not specify which of his sons had made the original comment.
Hickling also claimed the president then joked: "You're only as old as you feel, right?" while wagging his finger at the 42-year-old.
The same event also sparked a debate about Trump’s height.
Eric is reportedly just over 6ft 4in, while Trump is listed at around 6ft 3in.
But in footage from the event, the president appeared visibly shorter than his son and was occasionally seen looking upward while speaking to him.
"Eric Trump: 6' 4. Donald Trump: Definitely not 6' 3," one person wrote.
"Eric Trump is supposedly 2 inches taller than his father. Is he standing in a hole?" another joked.
Eric accompanied his father overseas during the president’s state visit to China.
He arrived in Beijing alongside his wife, Lara Trump, as part of the US entourage.
The 42-year-old currently oversees many of the Trump family’s investments, including ventures tied to real estate and golf, while also shifting focus toward cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
Lara, a former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, now hosts the Fox News program "My View with Lara Trump".
According to Reuters, the Trump Organization said the couple attended the China trip in a personal capacity.
"[Eric] does not have business ventures in China nor plans on doing business in China,” spokeswoman Kimberly Benza said, per SCMP.
"He will not be participating in private meetings, but will instead stand alongside the president to mark this historic occasion."
Donald Trump has been caught on camera making comments about a woman's body while riding in a golf cart with his 17-year-old grandson.
The president, who turns 80 in June, was filmed at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday, and the clip has quickly gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
Trump was driving through his Florida golf course with his grandson, Donald Trump III - Don Jr's 17-year-old son - sitting beside him when he spotted a woman.
Without missing a beat, the president began shouting compliments about her physique from the moving cart.
"She's in great shape!" he said, driving with one hand as he pointed at the woman.
"She's in great shape, look at her."
He then pulled over, got out of the cart - leaving his teenage grandson behind - and fixed his belt before calling the woman over.
"You want a picture?" he asked.
"Come on over here."
Still apparently fixated, he added: "Is she in good shape or what?"
Trump then put his arm around the woman, who appeared to be a member at the club. He grabbed her hand as a crowd began to form around them, before asking: "You're all members, right?"
He then put his arm around her once more and asked: "Is that your husband?" - pointing towards the person filming.
The woman has been identified as Nina Coates, a golf content creator from Taiwan who is based in Miami.
Coates responded to the attention on social media with good humour, posting a clip of the encounter on TikTok alongside the words 'Yes I'm married' and a laughing face emoji.
How have people reacted?
As you might imagine, the clip hasn't gone down well with everybody.
Critics online were quick to share their thoughts, with one writing on X: "This is disgusting behaviour from a sitting president. His grandson is right there."
Another added: "Nearly 80 years old, commenting on a woman's body like she's a show horse. Embarrassing."
Others were more blunt. "Imagine being 17 and watching your grandad do this," one user wrote, while another simply posted: "This man is the President of the United States."
There were also those who drew comparisons to Trump's long history of making public comments about women's appearances.
The clip comes just weeks after Trump was criticised for complimenting Fox News host Dana Perino's looks on live television while she was asking him about whether Iranians had access to food and water during the ongoing conflict.
"Do you remember when we had lunch years ago at the base of Trump Tower? You haven't changed," Trump told Perino, before adding: "You may be even better looking, OK?" as reported by The Mirror.
The president was also found liable in 2023 for sexually abusing columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996, and infamously boasted in the leaked 2005 'Access Hollywood' tape about grabbing women without consent.
Supporters, meanwhile, have largely brushed the golf course clip off as Trump being Trump - arguing that complimenting someone's fitness is hardly a scandal.
The incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Trump's time on the golf course.
A HuffPost analysis released late last month found that the president's golf outings have cost the taxpayer at least $101.2 million in travel and security expenses since he returned to office in January last year.
All three of Trump's wives have been younger than him. His current wife, First Lady Melania Trump, is 55 - some 24 years his junior.
His first wife, Ivana Trump, passed away in July 2022 at the age of 73.
Whether you see the clip as harmless fun or deeply uncomfortable viewing probably depends on where you already stand on Trump.
But either way, it's hard to imagine too many grandfathers behaving like that with a teenager sitting next to them.
Donald Trump has left Twitter perplexed by sharing a bizarre three-word statement.
The former president, 75, had the statement posted to shared to Twitter by his spokesperson Liz Harrington yesterday (August 11), and it was shared with no clarification or context, Independent reports.
The statement simply read: "Bullies never fight."
The short address was also shared by the Director of Communications for Save America and Donald J Trump, Taylor Budowich.
Washington Examiner is also reporting that the cryptic message was also sent to all recipients of the former president's email list on Wednesday.
The statement did not go unnoticed on the social media website, and people were quick to speculate about what the former president could have meant by the three-word address.
One person simply questioned: "LOL. What the f**k is going on?"
A second, meanwhile, questioned why Trump could still post statements via his staff to Twitter after being banned from the platform earlier this year.
They wrote: "why is she allowed to keep posting statements from someone who is banned from Twitter? [sic]"
A third jokes: "He sounds like he is having an excellent morning."
Another Twitter user mockingly commented: "So true: 'BULLIES NEVER FIGHT'. They usually incite others to do it for them while they hide in a White House bunker."
Meanwhile, another simply pondered: "Succinct, yet vague."
Then there were some Twitter users who simply used the president's statement as a chance to imitate it with their own three-word statements.
One wrote: "Purple monkey dishwasher."
A second added: "Yellow matter custard."
The Independent reports that Maggie Haberman, a senior correspondent for The New York Times, speculated that the president was referring to the resignation of Andrew Cuomo as the governor of New York following sexual assault allegations.
Trump was permanently banned from Twitter in January in the wake of the January 6 assault on the Capitol "due to the risk of further incitement of violence".
President Donald Trump has shocked the public with yet another odd comment about one of his personal relationships.
The US leader is no stranger to a cringeworthy remark or two, but the 47th President keeps surprising people with the things he comes up with.
Trump was speaking to attendees outside the White House on Tuesday evening (April 28), where King Charles and Queen Camilla had arrived for a state visit to the US.
Viewers had previously noticed several details about the visit, including bruising on his left hand when he greeted the British Royals, sparking health concerns.
His initial exchanges with the King were also scrutinised, as a lip reader claimed that he brought up the subject of Vladimir Putin numerous times, with the press looking on.
King Charles had stated "America’s words carry weight and meaning" and spoke about the “bond of kinship” between the two nations, despite Trump's disdain for UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Just days after an assassination attempt on Trump, he was back speaking to the press and talking about his own ancestral links to the UK, with his mother emigrating to the US in the late 1920s.
He told attendees: "My mother, I just see it so clearly, she loved — I told the King this — she loved the royal family, and she loved the queen,
"And any time the queen was involved in a ceremony or anything, my mother would be glued to the television, and she'd say, 'Look, Donald, look how beautiful that is.'"
He even claimed that his mom thought that a young Charles was "so cute," despite there being a 36-year age gap between the two, with the latter being two years younger than Donald himself.
"My mom! My mother had a crush on Charles, can you believe it? I wonder what she's thinking right now!" he added.
Trump temporarily paused his speech, which was supposed to honor the arrival of the King of England, to joke about his 21-year marriage to former model Melania.
He was speaking about his mom and her marriage to his father, explaining: "She came to America at 19, met my incredible father, we loved him so much, we all loved him, we loved her, we loved him: Fred. And, they were married for 63 years."
Referencing his Scottish-American mother, he said to Melania: "And, uh, excuse me, if you don't mind, that's a record we won't be able to match, darling."
While attendees laughed at his apparent joke, there was a sense of unease among many viewers.
But this didn't stop the President from going on: "I'm sorry, it's just not going to work out that way. We'll do well, but we're not going to do that well."
The President's joke came nearly a week after talk show host Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about Melania being an "expectant widow."
Claiming that it was "hateful and violent rhetoric," the First Lady made a rare public comment on the monologue, while the President called for Kimmel to be fired.
Kimmel has since replied, saying in his first monologue since the Washington shooting that it was "obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they're together."
He went on: "It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination, and they know that, I've been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular," he added.
"I agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject, I think a great place to start to dial that back is having a conversation with your husband about it."
